A Lion/Ram conference final would be fun.

That graphic left off the other thing the Rams got in that trade: a Lombardi trophy. If Detroit can get one then sure they win that trade easy. Without it? They got the Phaneuf return

Well, no, Calgary didn't win anything or even really have any good runs as a result of the Phaneuf return. It's more like the reverse Lindros trade... yeah the Avs got a mini-dynasty out of that, but the Flyers enjoyed a fair bit of winning as well for a years, even though they didn't actually win a cup.

Have to say the Lions really did make the most of that. On the flipside the Rams did win the Superbowl in their own stadium.
I say it's win/win. It has probably helped the Lions more. But hard to criticize a team with a championship in hand

Not enough close to the Phaneuf trade. We got a bunch of stuff. Gibbs alone is a star running back. La Porta is a top 10 tight end. Williams is progressing g well into a 2 WR.

Closer to the Brett Hull trade I suppose. Lose the trade but win a Cup.

Or Nieuwendyk for Iginla to an extent, though the return wasn't a haul. More of a star for future star. Dallas quickly won a Cup, we got Iggy all those years.
It's still too early to know for sure; if Detroit wins a Super Bowl (or more) in the next 3 years, it'll largely be due to that offence, of which the core formed from that trade.
But even if that happens, there's no real "loser" of that trade. Rams aren't winning the title 3 years ago without Stafford, so I doubt they'd regret it even if Lions win a title. Solid trade for both teams.

Shoot guys I'm sorry I thought the offhand analogy was clear. Phaneuf was a big name that got traded for a lot of parts that didn't result in that team winning anything. So far Detroit traded Stafford for a lot of parts that haven't resulted in that team winning anything.
Your guys examples are super good too though. Great job team we all did our part today

As a Lions fan, that trade was a slam dunk the day it happened regardless of who the draft picks ended up being. The Lions were stagnating and needed to move on, ditto for Stafford. Once that trade happened, it signalled the start of a true rebuild, a bit analogous to the Flames of last year when they finally cashed in their aging vets that weren't going to get the team anywhere.
It was somehow gratifying to watch Stafford win a Super Bowl as I still kind of felt like he was one of our own.
Good trade all around. But the way the draft picks turned out and how Goff managed to turn his career around, this was a Joe-Carter-3-run-shot-to-win-the-World-Series type of event for the Lions. Even if we don't win a Super Bowl. The entire trajectory of the franchise has been altered.
A Lions-Rams NFC Championship would be a bit disappointing for me as we played them in the playoffs last year and beat them earlier this season too. Like, is that really the best the NFC can offer? I think the Eagles are a much bigger challenge. But maybe I've just gotten arrogant.

It's amazing how much Goff's stock fell when the trade occurred. He was a first overall pick similar to Stafford. And it wasn't like Stafford was knocking it out of the park in Detroit either.

When Belichick cracked the code for the McVey offense in the 2019 Super Bowl it set Goff and McVay back. Goff is a really good QB but he needs a good scheme and surrounding talent. The next season teams emulated what Belichick did and the Rams offense struggled. When Stafford arrived, Kupp just started hitting his stride in year three and McVay learned a lot from getting schooled by Belichick and they got back on track. Goff was fortunate enough to land in a spot where there was a lot of progression in surrounding talent and the formation of another brilliant offensive scheme, and things have come together for the Lions. Kind of the rare big trade that worked out for both teams.

I would say even if Lions get one, I would consider it a draw. Rams got a SB instantly, and have a chance at another one still.
It has worked out well for both teams.

On the "game of inches front", remember that the Rams were losing that NFCCG to Sexy Jimmy and the Niners and Stafford threw an atrocious air punt INT that was dropped that might have sealed the game for the Niners. If that gets caught, and the Niners win, we're likely discussing this trade as one of the worst ever given the haul the Lions got. Instead it gets dropped, and here we are.

In my continuing wave of being a negative fan, I fully expect Lamar to play the game of his life on Sunday (and Allen to play very well too) and Bills lose a heartbreaker like 34-31 or something. THen we'll say, oh at least the Ravens are finally feeling it and they'll head to the Super Bowl! And they'll roll in to KC and lay an egg while KC sleepwalks to a 17-7 win for another giftwrapped trip to the big game...

I feel you. As an Eagles fan, I'm dreading the Rams on Sunday. I think the wildfires have galvanized them and that defense has really come together since the last time we played them.
The middle of the field took a big hit when Dean went out last weekend and I fully expect McVay to exploit.
Plus, Hurts looked like ass last weekend and I don't have any faith he can pull them back if they fall behind early.

I hold out hope because we're maybe the best team at home in the history of the league the last few years, but it wasn't enough last year in the divisional round...
