Signing a Blues offer is basically a cry for help. If the Oilers match, I think humanitarian concerns should take precedence. Amnesty International should get involved.

But I generally agree with the nature of the trades you're suggesting. The benefit of the RNH move is that they actually HAVE to get something back here - either in the trade that gives them this cap space, or elsewhere. Because they won't have Kane and they'll need a couple of bodies after moving someone out.
I think the best option is probably to do the Ceci thing and hope you can land one of the players who inevitably gets traded in September when it becomes clear they're going to end up on waivers anyway.

Oilers will sign both, think they will move Ceci.

If the Oilers lose both players, wonder if Kane will have a miraculous recovery.

lol best post on HF is that Holloway is dumb and left money on the table because he would have had a 90 point season with McDrai and secured a 9 million dollar deal.

Carolina said very fast that they were going to be matching Montreals offer sheet to Aho, but waiting until the deadline to do it so the Habs had their picks locked in and couldn't do anything else with them.

I would bet Holloway is praying the Oilers don't match.

There's no "trade" to be made here right? It's like Monny and MTL, no?
|
Cody Ceci is the exact type of player the Flames should be all over if the Oilers get desperate to clear cap space. One year left at $3.25mil is meaningless to us and the player sucks, while we're hoping to be bottom 10 at minimum this year.
It's perfect. Half Sean Monahan's salary when he got a first, so we'll take a 2nd for him and add another valuable bullet in the chamber.

Having never been a core piece of an NHL locker room I have no idea but how do the Oiler players reconcile with these two knowing they willingly helped sabotage the Oilers season given the cap implications if they were to match. I think there might be some resentment towards Broberg and Holloway. Awkward training camp?

I don't think a single player on the Oilers would begrudge a couple guys who were likely going to need to take $1-2M deals for only a year or two with no certainty on they're next contact.

We're going to suck either way, why should we help them?

Because you don't let pride or a rivalry get in the way of strengthening our rebuild? And you're acquiring a valuable asset - a second round pick?? First of all, they'll find someone to take on a contract like that with a payment to do so, so most likely they'd get rid of him whether it's us or someone else, so it should be us.
And secondly, even if we were the only team to take on a bad contract for a pick or two, I'd still do it because I'm a Flames fan and I want the Flames to be a contender down the road. That happens with more bullets in the chamber. And a 2nd round pick for Cody Ceci would be found money.

Once Dink and Piss leave, that place is going to be a wasteland. Oiler fans might mock Calgary now but oh boy. The best is yet to come.

Pretty much as this is what the Oilers do. Stauffer is pretty well a mouthpiece for the organization so he's been instructed to deflect blame in the direction of Holland. Pretty classless move IMO.
