Don't forget they lost in the finals and that their 2 "superstars" didn't get a single point between them in the final 2 games when it actually mattered!

There were multiple failures in the Blackhawks situation and more than enough blame to go around, with some having more knowledge that others, but Bowman as the head of the group that could take action and knew, has to take the brunt of the responsibility.
For the Oilers to try and defer some of the blame off the guy they hired by bringing in a former victim to advocate for him, just doesn't sit right. Let Bowman talk for himself and answer for himself and deal with the fallout, now and in the future.

Bowman doesn't want to talk about the past. He wants to put it behind him. Said so at the press conference today. What a ####ing dirtbag!! He'll fit right in to that #### show organization.

Flames are not perfect as they allowed Dube to play with the knowledge of issues surrounding him and others, as well as New Jersey.
I stopped watching hockey last fall due to this.
Easy to throw stones at others but Calgary did the same as far as I’m concerned.

Once Dube was named in the allegations he never played another game for the flames. That’s pretty different than signing a wife beating sexual assaulter (Kane), a run of the mill grab ass sexual assaulter (Perry), a vehicular manslaughterer (Mactavish), signing another sexual assaulter to a PTO (Virtanen) and now a mastermind to cover it all up again (Bowman).
I might be missing some, but if these things are similar I’d love to hear your response.

That’s fine. Doesn’t mean press won’t ask him on every road trip. And if he’s not accessible, press will find players who are. Oilers PR guy will have to stop lines of questioning about this leading to uncomfortableness and distraction.
My point was don’t let Kennedy be helicoptered in carry any water for him. Bowman has to be responsible for his actions and so too does the organization that chose to hire him after the situation, and if that means questions asked, it means questions asked.

Could have held an internal investigation and then suspended him on behavioral grounds.
I'm not happy how Dube was handle either. Definitely not near what the Oiler's organization has telegraphed for a few weeks now, and today done, but I'm still not thrilled about how the Flames handled Dube.

You cant just suspend players for “behavioural” grounds absent proof
The PA wouldn’t allow it

There was already a Hockey Canada as well as a Federal government investigation going on (which resulted in the feds withholding funds and sponsors dropping like flies). How would you even host an internal investigation for 1 player on your team?
Hey Dube, do you like raping? No? Have you ever raped? Also no?? Wow what a turn of events.

If Dube didn't admit any wrong doing there's absolutely nothing the team could do except wait for the investigation to be done, Dube pulled the mental health card to keep getting paid, that part ended once charges were laid.

I'm sure it hasn't.
They'd have tried to re-sign Holland if they had won Game 7. When the league mysteriously failed to deliver them the Stanley Cup in shiny giftwrap, they had to turn to Plan B.

I see Seravalli has forgiven Bowman and endorsed his hire. Of course this is the same Seravalli who was all over Sutter for being a grumpy jerk.

Dube was already an employee and had rights under the CBA. Sounds like he also wasn’t forthcoming. Bowman was a new hire. As was Kane, Perry, MacTavish, etc.

Another ex-player from the Blackhawks filed a lawsuit just last fall. When that goes to court, Bowman is probably going to have to talk about it and it will be in the media all over again. The Oilers were dumb for hiring him and the NHL was dumb for reinstating him, especially with that lawsuit still looming because new information could come to light.
I bet it was the Oilers that pushed for reinstatement because they probably wanted to hire him all along.

It is going to be hilarious when the Oilers end up paying Bowman not to work. Apparently the petition is going on, and fans have actually cancelled some subscription services and are targeting the whatever sponsor advertises with the Oilers.
This feels like Columbus - Babcock 2.0 fiasco. They just saw that team crater from day one, choosing to sign a known issue as a coach that the public didn't support. The instant that something ended up happening, they trotted out there pushing Gaudreau and Jenner out there saying that there was no problem. Backlash ensued, and they ended up being forced to terminate Babcock.
With all of this backlash, it certainly feels like the Oilers won't be able to to just close their eyes and plug their ears. I thought that there would be some backlash of course, but when they brought up Beach and trotted out Sheldon Kennedy, I thought it would be more of a murmur than anything. I was definitely wrong on that.
It just seems like such an unnecessary gamble to take in light of what we have been seeing in hockey lately (and the world in general). Then you look at his track record, and THIS is the sword that you are willing to die on here? It is like Jeff Jackson just saw Kekalainen's head get chopped off by the guillotine, and he says: "I don't think it is sharp enough to cut my head off. Let's try it." It just becomes even more funny considering that he wasn't even a good GM. There is no upside here.
I wonder if Quenneville will even attempt at returning to the NHL after seeing this show.

He probably will. Why? Because he’s the one most capable at his job and probably the one who did the least harm (not a high bar).

It was his coach that was the sexual assaulter. And he was the guy who according to the lawyers report basically said “don’t do anything when we are trying to win a Stanley Cup”. Usually the HC handpicks their coaching staff and has a bit of autonomy when dealing with them.

I don't really get this hire for the Oilers.
Not sure why they decided to open themselves up to so much controversy over a guy who was pretty mediocre as a GM.
