If I was in his shoes, I'd make the exact same choice. It's not particularly honorable, but can't hate a playa for getting dat bag.
It is completely honourable to expect the Flames to live up to the terms of the contract signed in good faith.

Maurice saved Bob's career. He installed a stalwart defensive system that allows the goaltender to shine, just look at Florida's backups the last two years. Bob was good this playoffs but he also got outplayed by Swayman and Shesterkin. The only series where he was clearly better than the other guy was against the Oilers and even then his stats were pretty bad.

He's a system goalie and will only be as good as the defense infront of him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Knight take the starters job next year.

Who isn't? Hasek?

The most overrated position in major pro sports. Swayman's trying to take advantage of it now and so far Boston isn't falling for it. I suspect they will. Carolina wouldn't.

There are a few. Shesterkin or prime Vasy in recent years. IMO Bob isn't on that level. But he's won now so maybe now the pressure of that contract isn't crushing him anymore.

I think Turek did something like that, but it's not allowed any more.

Restructured his contract so we could sign someone else.

Anybody hoping Huberdeau walks away from $73.5 million is insane.

I remember Rhett Warrener talking about how he wished he could have done that at the end of his career, but he couldn't.

I feel bad for Huberdeau, watching his former team win the cup, but the reality is… thats the name of the game. He was traded and he signed. I still hope he pulls it around to a PPG, the last half of the season was promising. Hopefully youth might actually revive him as well. He didn’t win the cup with the panthers when he was there they won it when he wasn’t. He should move on. Pretty sure Avs/Knights moved players year before winning the cup and they likely whined about it a bit as well but can’t do anything about it but try to win on the team you are currently playing for.

He's not whining. He was asked a question and he answered honestly.

Of course it sucks to see your former team win, and see your buddies lift the cup. Especially being on a team that is entering a tear down and rebuild.

Which is good. It happened more often that players would hold out because they wanted to renegotiate their contracts. The concept screwed teams more than it helped them.
