I think conman low balled him and kylington balked. Oh well. There are always other fish in the sea if things don’t align. Has to work for both sides.

He'll find a landing spot eventually, but I'll be shocked if he gets a two year deal from anyone.
Probably should have just taken what the Flames offered and had that familiarity.

I think teams view Kylington as a flight risk. They are afraid that he may all of a sudden says he is not feeling it and takes a long break, leaving teams high and dry.

I could see Tampa making a move to sign him. If he keeps developing from where he was… he’s a Sergachev-lite. If not, he’s a solid option as a 3rd pairing defenceman with a risk of having to leave the team for long periods of time.

No hard feelings, but good on Conroy for holding the line on the offer. Don’t need to chase guys like Kylington

From what I understand they had agreed on salary, it was term that ended it.

It would be funny if Valimaki ended up making more.

If that's the case, he may well circle back to the Flames. Find it hard to imagine another team taking the risk right now.
(But then again, Tre gave Tanev a contract that is WAY past his Best Before date....)

We don’t need him. Liked Kylington but the Flames aren’t a charity. If he wanted to be in Calgary there was an offer. If he wanted money, well, don’t come crying back when it isn’t there.

I don't believe that's possible. Only entry-level players or players over 35 can sign contracts with performance bonuses.
A veteran who has played 400+ games who spent more than 100 days on the IR in the last year can also sign a one-year deal with performance bonuses, but Kylington has only played 201 regular season and 12 playoff games. I believe some would be prorated higher due to COVID, but not enough to push him over 400. Also, this type of contract could only be for one-year, which apparently was the dealbreaker.

If true he got bad advice

I agree with you. A good agent would tell him he wasn’t in a position to ask for term. I frankly think it raises questions, instead of him wanting to prove he deserves a big raise.

Very disappointed that they couldn’t get a deal done. I find it hard to believe that kylington has much leverage in this situation. The club was very accommodating during his mental health leave and I believe he’s getting bad advice from someone in his inner circle if the belief is a longer term is an option.
He’s certainly free to explore all offers as a free agent and maybe he gets a longer term from a different club, but I think he’s lost some goodwill if he comes circling back to the Flames and wants the original offer. We made some moves today and Conroy indicated that the door is closing.
I wish him all the best with his health issues, but also question the thinking from him and his agent after what transpired over the last 18 months. As Connie said, wish him all the best.

Geez, you hate to see this happen, but it looks like nobody other than the Flames was willing to take a chance on him.
The idea of testing free agency is fine, but when you aren't getting the calls within the first hour or two, go snag that contract offer before it's too late.

It is also puzzling because he was almost certainly going to be a #3. It was a huge opportunity to increase his worth in the league.
Now he will likely go to a team where he is a bottom pairing guy,

I hope Kylington turns back to the Flames. The Flames could still use another left-handed defenceman.
Kylington - Andersson
Bahl - Weegar
Bean - Miromanov

And even if the Flames were a charity, I would prefer Gio.
Would at least be a fun story. Then trade him at the deadline for a cup.
