The Flames now have 7 skaters at a point per game or better this season from the 2024 draft.

I think the potential is there for the Flames to have a similar rebuild as Chicago. They had a number of picks develop and hit the NHL a few years after their draft year just before landing their high first rounders. It is perfect timing.
If they can get a top 10 and hit in the next couple drafts, in addition of their extra first rounders they picked up, I think they will be able to get off the mat quickly.

A player with the grit of McQueen or the speed of Misa could go a long way to complimenting their current crop of players. Super exciting stuff already

Looks like some smart scouting. Early returns on 2024 look good, on top of the prospects already in the system.
More hope than hype.

If Conroy and his staff have another absolute beast of a draft this year, there are going to be very few things to worry about in terms of quality prospects in the cupboards. Yes, the team desperately needs to add 2-3 center's to the pool, with 2 being in the elite skill category. If that happens, all bets are off as to how long it takes for this to come back together.
I absolutely love the D pipeline from the NHL level down to Junior - it has been staggered to perfection, and the FW crop is looking to be going that way now as well too.
Such a breath of fresh air for a franchise devoid of any effective drafting for so long.

It was a great draft.
Have one equally as good in 2025 and we may have ourselves a future core.

I took it they meant the 2000's Blackhawks. Players like Byfuglien, Brouwer, Versteeg, Keith, Seabrook, Bolland, Ladd etc. all had developed into NHLers by the time Toews/Kane were ready to be superstars, and complimented them well, along with the veterans like Hossa and Sharp.

Yeah, that is what I was getting at. Look at their roster D+1 from the Kane draft D+2 for Toews, where they beat us in the playoffs before winning it all the next season. Bolland 22, Brouwer 23, Byfuglien 23, Fraser 24, Hjalmarsson, 21, Keith 25, Ladd 23, Seabrook 23, Versteeg 22, Crawford 24. About 10 guys that were 3-5 years from their draft to compliment 20 year old Kane and Toews.
The 2024 draft goes a long way to feeding the system and having the prospects grow together. Will love to see where things stand in a couple years.

It is interesting to look at the 2024 draft more broadly, not just Flames picks.
Cayden Lindstrom, still hasn't been cleared to play. He didn't participate in the CBJ training camp, and last I heard has not practiced at any level NHL, or WHL.
Tij Iginla is off to a good D+1 season 9g, 6a 15pts
There were 5 or 6 D-men at the top of the draft, with varying opinion who was the best. A month into the D+1 season, still pretty hard to tell.
Levshunov turned pro, was injured early on, but is now playing for the Chicago Wolves.
Levshunov has 1 pt is 4 AHL games.
Yakemchuk has 10 pts in 9 games.
Dickinson has 17 pts in 12 games.
Buium has 10 pts in 8 games.
Silayev has 5 pts in 18 KHL games.
Parekh has 15 pts in 13 games.
Couple others. Michael Hage is off to a great freshman season. Dean Letourneau is not.
Justin Poirier might be a Gaudreau-like mid-round steal 28pts in 15 games, incl. 16 goals!

One thing to keep track of is that Chicago reportedly offered the 34th OA + their unprotected 2025 1st to both CBJ and Montreal for their respective 4th and 5th OA.
The speculation is that Chicago was going to use that pick on Demidov.
Will be an interesting what if in a couple of years.

I get why Montreal / CBJ wouldn't have done that - you just never know.
It could have been 34th + 1st or it could have been 34th + 12th.
And when you're giving up 4th or 5th you need the certainty.
Had it been like 18 + 2025 unprotected first for 4th or 5th then I think maybe it's a closer discussion.

Back surgeries tend to lead to more back surgeries. Hopefully he can recover from this one properly and get on the ice, he's losing extremely valuable development time in his D+1.
Id be pretty worried as a Flames fan if we had drafted Lindstrom.

Dickinson seems to be on a bit of a "I shouldn't have fallen to 11" revenge tour this season, crazy start from him.

Basha, Gridin, Mews and Battaglia are all north of a PPG this season.
Battaglia the best of the crop with 31pts in 22 games.

The quality of D in the top end of the first round is just nuts. Dickinson only fell (as did Buium) because there were so many other valid choices.
I would have personally taken Dickinson over Yakemchuk. This year any of Levshunov, Yak, Parekh, Silayev, Dicknson, or Buium would all be the first or 2nd dman off the board.

Yeah at the time I was kind of happy with any of Dickinson, Buium, or Parekh...maybe leaned more Buium and Parekh due to the offensive upside.
But Dickinson is turning that on it's head a bit now because his size combined with true elite offensive production now is such a rare combination.
San Jose getting Celebrini and Dickinson in one draft will look crazy for years to come.

Yeah and that was the concern with him. How much offense does he have. Seems like that answer is at minimum "more than we thought".
