I've thought it over and I do think I will continue to support the team in SLC ... if they keep the current hockey ops group. They're the ones that brought in Cooley, Guenther, Doan, and Moser. The scouting staff is legit good. I want to see how those guys, plus Keller and Crouse, can do with a bit more money behind them.

Eventually I'm sure my attachment to them will fade -- I have no ties to Utah whatsoever -- but I'm invested in seeing this group of players succeed. If and when a team returns to Phoenix, I'll support them.

It's the same franchise, and contracts with that franchise remain in force.

The Coyotes weren't paying their hotel bills when they travelled? Oh man....

Of course, with the salary floor in place, it's in every owner's interest to have a big enough arena to compete with the rest of the league. Winnipeg seems to be at the very bottom of the viable range.
As far as I know there have been formal requirements for minimum seating capacity in every expansion RFP the NHL has had going back to the original expansion in 1967, which set a capacity floor at 12,500. By the 1979 merger ('expansion') with the WHA it was set at 15,000 (which the Hartford Civic Center still fell short of until additional renos in the mid-'80s ; Winnipeg and Quebec had to substantially expand their arenas to meet the 15k number).

The Senators-Lightning expansion had a minimum 18,000 threshold, which in retrospect was too high; the Ducks began playing the year after and the Pond was only about 17,500, but that was Disney money so the NHL BoG didn't put up a fuss. A bunch of arenas have since opened that are <18,000, among them T-Mobile Arena. I don't think the NHL board care too too much about the arena capacity, as long as the ownership has preferential "revenue streams" from the operation of it and an overarching plan to achieve revenue targets.

Thanks, timun. I wasn't sure if there was a formal number that was available to the public, but I did know that some expansion bids were turned down due to insufficient arena capacity.

The club is the franchise licenced by the league. The Coyotes are in fact legally the original NHL Winnipeg Jets franchise. The team records are those including the old Jets.

Where is the fanbase to support this fever dream?

A lot can change in 13 years, but the current climate is very much against such funding. I think this is something overlooked in current events, Phoenix may be willing to make infrastructure improvements on the taxpayer's dime, but anything to do with another event center or arena is a hard no. Anyone supporting such causes would be committing a very public political suicide. The appetite for such spending is pretty well non-existent in valley politics.

What attachment do you have to them right now? There are very few people with any attachment to the team so always looking for anyone who can explain what draws them to support this organization. What is it that makes you believe they should continue to exist because not many people in Phoenix give a flying #### about the Coyotes.

From what I understand, the NHL Board of Governors don't meet officially until June, so a Zoom call in the interim is needed to okay the relocation. Has that happened yet?

Dude, chill out. I just like the team. Or, more appropriately, liked. Not everything in sports needs to have a rational explanation. I like underdogs and I like cheering for players who are overlooked.

Well, I guess we should prepare for the Central division. Gonna be tough to crack that playoff nut.

From the sounds of what's being reported. The team found out today so I'm assuming that call has happened.
