Final game for the Oakland A’s today at home. A sad day for Oakland and a sickening moment for Major League Baseball and the A’s owner John Fisher. I feel for A’s fans. That is a once proud franchise that was left to waste away by a fail son owner who ultimately will get his wish of a tax payers paying for a new stadium.

Well all three teams left largely because the city wouldn't give on funding new facilities. So it's a sad day for Oakland sports fans as I can't see anyone going back.
But the A's situation is odd because they really don't have a very good plan for the new stadium or what they'll do in the meantime. At least the Raiders and Warriors went into new facilities when they left.

Need just a 1v1 HR derby at next years ASG between Ohtani and Judge. Won't happen, but what an event that could be.

AL vs NL
Yankees vs Dodgers
It has everything. It'd be perfect. Guaranteed they won't do it

Crazy that if the White Sox had 5 Ohtanis in their batting order at 7.8 WAR each, they still wouldn't be in a playoff spot.

Seeing the Mariners and Twins late season collapses has been a nice consolation for the Jays being a tire fire. Still can't believe the Jays got swept by both those teams to end long playoff droughts. Only to go right back to sucking.

Probably would be.
Becasue if they are replacing negative WAR players (which I'm assuming the White Sox have) then the net benefit is actually better than +7.8

And the effect would be cumulative. Five ohtani level players means you get more at-bats, you pitch with the lead more often, ohtani 2-5 are more likely to bat with RISP, etc.

Effing Angels got swept by the White Sox. Now at 39 and 120 they need to be swept to achieve the 39-123 record. Detroit win tonight and they clinch a Wild Card berth. Really can't catch Baltimore who only need 1 more win. So the Tigers might mail in the last 2 games here to give away one more win.

Clutch win by the Braves. Was checking the wild card standings and wondering why the Braves and Mets had played 2 less games than the DBacks. Realised they are playing a season ending double header. Crazy.

So Braves and Mets just need to win one of the two games against each other tomorrow and both are in. D-Backs need someone to sweep.
Does the team that wins game 1 have a champagne celebration in the 30 minutes between games? Does the losing team send extra champagne?

Their playoff game will be the next day too. The winning team will try to put as many non playoff roster players out as possible. DBacks can't be happy with how this worked out.

Take care of your own business comes to mind. DBack lost five of their final seven games, including four of their last six to teams who had nothing to play for.

There were a lot of them in Seattle today. They took over the stadium in the top of the 9th by chanting "Let's go Oakland."
They almost staged an epic comeback, they had the tying run at the plate.
My wife grew up in the East Bay and she said that she was surprised by how sad she was. Spent a lot of time at the ballpark with her friends in highschool.

Anyone fighting for jobs? Could play themselves onto the playoff roster.

The Mariners ended up missing the playoffs by one game. Has to be the most cursed team although Cleveland is up there too.

White Sox being in AL central probably cost them the playoffs. Detroit went 10-2 vs the Southsiders, and the Royals went an unbelievable 12-1.
Not hard to imagine they got at least 1 extra win each in there from the White Sox being historically bad.

Don't buy that, given the massive comeback vs the Jays 2 (long) years ago in the playoffs.
I predict the Mets and Braves will happily split the games tomorrow.
