I believe it was originally a tweet from a guy claiming to be janitor at the United Centre. Got shared on reddit and blew up from there

The Flames didn't fire Bill Peters despite him admitting to having repeatedly used the n word. Instead, he was allowed to resign.

Perry has always been a complete piece of fecal matter. This is the LEAST surprising contract termination. The only true surprise is that it took this long with him in the league for something like to to happen to/because of him.

The worst part of the press conference is that we have nothing more to go on and nothing has been put to bed. Leaves everything up to speculation and will only get worse.

I think it’s pretty clear from that presser that Perry did something bad enough at the rink or harassed someone and then it came to light while he was playing. It was a work place incident and there was alleged misconduct that was serious enough to pull him midgame and terminate his contract. The only reason there was a presser was because of the rumours.

Can you give examples. I know he was annoying on the ice. But that was his role. But off the ice? What else has he done?

Yeah, I think this greenlantern post after saying he'd rather trust a random twitter source and was suggesting that true hockey reporters were carrying water for the Blackhawks, sums up internet culture to a tee.

Yes, and that makes it even worse. He did it before the Flames hired him. What a surprise, the Calgary Flames failed to do their research before hiring a known racist. Then, when the facts came out, they didn't even fire him.

There wasn’t any research that would have turned up something like that. Dude had been an NHL coach between the incident and the Flames hiring him. The only ones who knew were ex-minor team players and the Flames can’t be expected to call them all.
As far as afterwards - we don’t know the contract terms and what they can do or not do as far as termination. But he wasn't going to be working for them no matter what. Do we really care that they threw him the bone of resigning? It was like Nixon resigning because they told him he’d be impeached.

I worked the Dome Security team for 5 or so years and Perry was always an absolute shorts smear towards anyone who was not a player. He would treat most people with utter disdain and acted like he was above everyone. Anytime we knew he was coming to the Dome, we would all fight to be anywhere but where he would be. Even if it meant outdoor work.

I don't think it was a widely known incident outside of the room it happened in. It doesn't seem reasonable to talk to every single person that ever interacted with someone in a work situation when checking their background. And even if the Flames did talk to someone from that room, there is no guarantee that they would have mentioned it. The Canes also hired him when it was closer to the incident, and they apparently didn't know either.

They would need grounds when they employed him. This didn't happen during the time he was employed by them, so no grounds to fire.
The best scenario is that he would resign and take the money owed to him and the team starts fresh.

Can you believe the Flames didn’t demand the CCTV footage of all head coaches time in the AHL locker rooms and have private investigators hiding behind their stick racks the entire time so we can be aware of these things when we hire a guy a decade later.
