Mangiapane is the reason Huberdeau got 2 points in game 1, not the other way around.
Very strange to harp on Mangiapane in defense of Huberdeau.

Well if Huberdeau doesn't make a bank pass to Mangiapane that play doesn't happen does it right?
Strange to discount Huberdeau.
Huberdeau has a goal on the empty if he isn't hooked in the hands which is a automatic goal, it was a great play by Mang to follow up no doubt. Doesn't change the fact hes been invisible the last 2 games. He is not getting into shooting areas.

So exciting I turned it off after the Markstrom flub. Because I knew it was over. Looks like I didn't miss anything.

His GAF is higher (pretty easy to beat haha) but man that contract is scary. Hard to believe he is the highest paid player in franchise history. Hopefully it all comes together for him here and we look back and laugh.

Maybe Huby just needs to order a Big Mac from McDonalds.

Scoring Winger
|
Only managed to tune into the 3rd period but from what I saw it was eerily similar to last season. I thought we looked pretty dominant (which is strange because I heard on the post game show that our first period was our best), saw Coleman miss a penalty shot, we had powerplays in a tie game in the last 10 mins and didn't manage to create any real quality chances. Coronato's shot is impressive, can't wait to see him in his prime with the right teammates around him.
All in all a pretty good performance, however I feel like this is going to be the script a lot of nights this season unless and until we get higher end talent that can score the big goals when we need them. Man it's still tough to go from watching Johnny and Tkachuk on that first line to .. whatever this is currently. Huberdeau and Kadri need to take the reins here and get the fanbase behind them soon or this thing is going to snowball IMO.

85 games, not 3
Dont blame a HOF 2x cup champ coach anymore, that coach has gotten a lot out of stars, Huberdeau is overhyped as others have mentioned with no pressure in Florida and playing sheltered minutes.

He already had 82 last year. I think he will get more points that last year but he hasn't been a line driver here and I am not sure he ever was in Florida. Gaudreau and Tkachuk could manufacture offence by themselves and Huberdeau doesn't look like he can.

How many line combinations did we have to go through once they split up Gaudreau-Monny-Lindholm?
They couldn't get going, its not that simple with star players. Heck they turned Backlund into a winger to get things going.
Johnny wasn't some magician who you put on a line to get going, they tried a lot with him. They had to go back to the well by making Lindholm a winger when nothing was working because Johnny couldn't carry his line.
They finally found a trio that worked and went off.
Mangipane doesn't seem to be the answer. He doesn't drive the net.

Kadri is Neal 2.0. Doesn't seem to give a ####.

I recall Conroy alluding to the difference between Huberdeau and Johnny G. I think the idea was they needed to find players to complement his skillset. My guess is the Flames will try what they have and if they can't make it work will look for a trade.
In the meantime these are games we need to be winning, I think for the most part the Flames are playing well, I hope they find good combo's and stick with with what works.

We played this game before with a few former players. He's played 85 games in a Flames Uniform. Sorry, but he is another overhyped Panthers player (Jokinen, Bouwmeester). Huberdeau is a product of the system, high-octane offense river hockey.

The issue is that Huberdeau needs players that the Flames don't have and I don't see how they get them in short order. He needs the the other players to create space so he can make a pass to them. Gaudreau could create space himself and could compliment a wider variety of players.

Johnny G was a pretty consistent player, I think stacking the top line was a good decision on his line. They might have to do that with Huberdeau as well.
Scoring at this point doesn't seem to be an issue, we didn't lose by much and hit a couple of posts in the shootout. The Huberdeau talk might be a tad premature; Hopefully the Flames can find some players who click with him so the team can settle down with some consistency.

Johnny didn't create space for the longest time the tale was the league figured him out.
Do you remember that? Button hook turnovers at the blueline, can't get it clean into the zone?
It took a while for him to kill those bad habits and find some proper linemates for him to go off.
I think once guys start going to areas he puts the puck things will ease up for him. Right now he is drawing the entire defence to him and passing through people, but he has also made great passes to guys to score easy goals that haven't been finished.
It shouldn't be that hard, Lindholm needs to start driving the puck in and dishing to Huberdeau and both him and the winger need to charge the net to get the passes or open up in the slot.
It's also not just a Huberdeau issue this seems to be a team wide issue. Trying to throw passes through people to a guy giving no support. Especially from our own end.

Disagree on scoring. They are stacking the top line with Huberdeau - Lindholm- Mangiapane. Lindholm and Huberdeau don't seem to click. Need to hope that line starts clicking or Kadri starts doing something.

Why do people confuse not agreeing with a plan for not having a plan at all?
