The socks are there to protect you. A "blow your socks off" announcement could have ripped the skin clear off your feet.

I'm a Calgary Flames fan. I think I'm safe.

No idea, look it up!
I wouldn’t say he was given incorrect info, he was just given information that wasn’t fully contextualized and did not contextualize it for anyone in a tweet. The city is responsible for inflation/cost overruns. That is true. CSEC is responsible for 50% (approx $150M of the $1.2B) of the overruns that are building-specific. Also true. And both things can be true at the same time.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying he didn’t communicate the full picture, because he didn’t, but there is a very simple explanation for why he didn’t. I do think it’s weird to suggest there was some nefarious intent or failure on his part in not doing so.
I get that people hate Salim and I’m not a fan, it just seems like a mountain out of a mole hill situation. We all got more clarity after the fact. No harm, no foul.

Interesting to hear Pat on Flames talk say we have never been this far down the path of a new arena and I beg to differ. The last deal fell through after many of the sub trades and provided pricing to tenders and were waiting to find out on awards and proceeding.
Has Cana been named the construction GC again?

Big difference the deal is fully signed. Money is allocated, nothing outstanding.
Speculation trades are hired

Trades are not hired. Maybe a GC but not the sub trades.

Sounds like the biggest difference here is that who pays for what and how everything is scoped is different, and this deal exists in today’s dollars with an eye for construction to begin shortly.
The previous deal was signed about the same time 3 years ago, and construction still had not started 2 years later. They want this one complete within 3 years, so it’s definitely way further along.

I think Pat feels like its further down the road because the city seems to be set on starting relocating the utilities that run under 5th ST SE in November.

Could there be something in the signed agreement that deters either party from walking away this time? Like highly punitive financial penalties or whatnot?

Something that I think has gone a bit under the radar is why the utility work needs to be done, which is that the size of the site is about 40% bigger than under the previous plan. The 'old' site was barely the size of the Saddledome, so it was difficult to figure out how they were going to put in all the different amenities, let alone a second rink, on basically the same footprint. The extra space will hopefully make for a better building.

Of course I care, but I'm a property tax(x2) paying Calgarian. You aren't, our priorities are much different.

Yeah I posted this in the previous thread:
The Blue outline is Event Centre 1.0's foot print over the current plans.

The Outdoor Plaza is vaguely shaped like BC, the Indoor Plaza is shaped like Alberta, and the unlabeled space of nothingness is definitely Saskatchewan.

Even November would be rather ambitious. The amount of utility relocation for green line likely has most manpower resources being used at capacity. Some of it is happening in that area but the vast majority of green line work is not happening south of East village.

Huh, generous. I usually want to make sure to exclude Chestermere.
