I have no interest in a Nylander-Hanifin swap. That seems like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.
But considering we are trying for 8th and that will never change with this club I have to admit what I want isn't ever going happen with this team.

They also have a late first (not their original). They have a couple prospects.

Swapping Hanifin for Nylander isn't shuffling deck chairs, it's replacing a deck chair with a gigantic leather couch

I don’t think this will be the case in perpetuity - I do think the state of the Saddledome probably necessitated this playoffs or bust mentality.
To me, Hanifin for Nylander makes sense, but only with extensions in hand for both, in addition to Lindholm.
On one-year deals? Pass.

There would’ve been room for Jack on a giant leather couch…

I'm not as high on Nylander as some as to me he's a very good complementary winger. At the end of the day it's swapping out players with one year left on expiring deals. Unless Nylander is willing to extend with the Flames at the time of trade this is not a trade the Flames should be making as they need futures and assets for pending UFA's not one year rentals.

Given it some thought, even with the cap going up he'll probably want Huberdeau money here. We'd probably be trading Hanifin for 1 year of Nylander.

Washington has #8, and Anthony Mantha, who they have identified as having negative value against his contract (one year left at $5.7). They also need a top 4 LD.
Hanifin for #8 and Mantha might work for both teams, and Mantha is a bounce back candidate.

I like Nylander, and think he would look great on our top line, but if we're trading for players, they need to have team team control 2+ years on a reasonable contract, or still RFA eligible.
We need to start getting better value for our assets, and bringing in guys that we might lose in a year is not the way to do that

The only way I'd do it is if there's a mandate to run it back in some shape next season (i.e there's no trading Hanifin/Lindholm for futures). Moving Hanifin for someone like Nylander is a better mix of talent for this roster with Kylington coming back.
It's not a scenario I foresee, but akin to what the Raptors did for Kawhi. Make a bet on a player that can push you over the top, if you believe it.
NOT the bet I'd be making, but if in the Flames house they really feel it's a win-now team worthy of running it back w/ new coaching staff.

When the Titanic sinks.. you have a better chance of salvaging the Deck chair than the leather couch...it's a trap!

Nylander for Hanifin doesn't improve us, doesn't give us a better chance to compete for anything, it just makes us a simliar level team with more strength up front and a much weaker defense.
Shouldn't we be making moves that give us a better chance to compete for a Cup? isn't that the goal of an NHL team?

second summer in a row St. Louis Blues radio (equivalent of FAN 960) are talking about the Flames. Last summer it was all Tkachuk. This year, local hockey talk is around the "three teams open for business" - Blues, Jets and Flames, and possibility as trade partners, especially the non-division rivals, Blues and Flames
One proposal was Hanifin (contract extended) for Scandella (cap dump) and two 1st round picks (#25 and #28)
there were other proposals, not worth mentioning

This is an interesting question.
If the offer was 13 for Hanfin vs 25 and 28...which would you prefer.
I initially lean towards 13 but this draft is so stacked between 10 and 30 that I might go 25 and 28.
