I mean, I could get answers, but then if I post what she says it probably doesn't do her career any favours, so I'll leave it at that.
I'm sure they had a mandate to plan city Canada Day events and they woked up this awesome plan. That's my guess, though. Doubt the committee had the authority to cancel the event they were tasked with putting on.

The weird part is who decided that face painting and flag waving was OK, but fireworks was the offensive part of Canada Day.

It might be judged to be easier to phase things out slowly rather than abruptly stopping the celebration altogether.

I've always found the Canada Day fireworks to be pretty mediocre anyway.

You can't do everything at once, that would look bad!
Slowly Canada Day will be cancelled.

Stampede parade is still my favorite event. You can have Chinese Lion/Dragon dancers side stepping horse manure.
So I hope that is the event that never changes. It truly welcomes all cultures in a very festive and colorful way.

First this, then 15 minute cities, then it's the gulag. Open your eyes people. Do your research.

I’m thinking, just maybe, the quality of the fireworks show isn’t really the issue here.

Oh, I know. It's just more of a "nothing of real value is lost" anyway. Stampede has a better show every night. The best ones were the year they did it from COP.

Hey, I dont like Edmonton more than the next guy but 'Gulag' while shockingly accurate is still a bit harsh...

Imagine getting this upset over fireworks on either side of the debate. What are you, 12?

This kind of weak tea response always amuses me. How upset do you think I am? Do you imagine me screaming at my keyboard? Writing an angry letter to my MLA? Shaking in my chair as I write the response? You're not chummer, do better.
Or does your side of the debate have so little to offer you have to resort to "why you haffta be mad?" drive bys? Is this even a debate tho really? Are you taking the position that fireworks are anti indigenous?

You need to learn to ignore rube's useless drive-bys when he offers them.

Well at least 10 councilors have come to their senses: https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...-day-fireworks
Of course Penner isn't among them, but at least it should happen.

I am so glad I'm out of that nitwit's ward.
Of course, now I'm in Walcott's ward, who is a nitwit cut from the same cloth. Can't win, I guess.

It's interesting, because I'm not sure which councilor is the best at this point? Plenty of competition for the worst, and that would just depend on your priorities maybe. Well, Chu is the worst hands down actually...but it's s toss-up for second.

You wrote "everything sucks now." Had all the vibes of a petulant child throwing a fit because his birthday party is ruined.
And if you look at my other responses in this thread, I think my position has been pretty clear. I understand why indigenous people don't enjoy Canada Day celebrations AND I think that cancelling the fireworks is a silly, insincere gesture.
That said, on the list of the things that would make me think "everything sucks now," this would be pretty much at the bottom of it.
