Phillips AHL record 15 GWG in the regular season.
Pelletier and Phillips both score big OT goals in the playoff games.
Good thing a team with 17 OT losses played those two a combined 26 games this year.
Nice to see the Wranglers really come up clutch to win those first two in OT, really couldn't afford a loss at home. Stupidest playoff format ever.

He deserves a 1-way somewhere.

Sadly it will be in Edmonton where he puts up 30 as a rookie. He's done getting treated like garbage.

Very different style of addressing the media from Darryl (thanks captain obvious).

I haven't followed the Wrangler all year. Based on their record, I'm surprised both games took OT to pull out the win, but I guess that's playoff hockey!

I'm sure another team will, this could be a little rerun of the Martin St. Louis situation.

I honestly think that's overselling it. I am a huge proponent of what Phillips can do and I think he's been given a raw deal here but I also don't think he's nearly at a MSL trajectory.
I think he's capable of being a 35-45 point guy in a good year, at best. Similar to Byron or Tyler Ennis. Good player, likeable, talented. Certainly not a guarantee, and we're not looking at Johnny or MSL 2.0 here. Unfair comp for Phillips imo.

Omg this!
Then work his way up to the parent team (once again), maybe by Conny's side, or on the bench.

One year, one-way, league minimum. Please.
Then, one way or another we'll know what we have in him in terms of NHL ability.

If his ceiling is Paul Byron or Tyler Ennis, is it that big of a deal if he walks? High compete, good skills, but lacks the size. Don’t get me wrong, Byron and Ennis have been serviceable players in the NHL, but Tyler Ennis has played for 6 different NHL teams. These types of players are available on waivers every fall.
I’m not saying Darryl shouldn’t have given him more of a look, but if we lose Matthew Phillips, it won’t be a massive loss.

Sure, it's probably not a huge deal, but you're looking at a homegrown draft pick who has put in the work. I think people are just looking for a player to be rewarded.

I agree. That’s what is probably most frustrating about Sutter

I have tickets for the 3 games in Abbotsford. If I only get to see one of them I'll at least be happy we swept the loathsome Canucks!
I assume if game 5 is played the Wranglers would get home team advantage? Anyone know?

I think the AHL playoff format minimizes travel. The Wranglers earned the right to choose whether they wanted to play the first two or final three games at home. They chose first at home.
Teams with < 300 miles between them will still do 2-2-1 apparently

That ship has sailed. If you're the player, why would you sign that contract? He's a UFA and should be looking for some long-term stability AND a chance to get to the NHL. His emphasis should be the long-term stability, first and foremost because his age and size are working against the latter.
Phillips is a skilled player that deserves to be paid for what he brings to a team. I don't think that happens in Calgary unless he is resigned to never getting a chance to be a full time NHL player. Unless Sutter and his ilk are removed from leadership a player like Phillips is not getting a fair shake. Moar Lucics, Lewises, and Ritchies and less young guys that can actually improve and possibly turn into more than what they currently are.

Lanny, could you rehash the same Matthew Phillips topic again instead of focusing on an exiting playoff run. Think that's what we all need.
