According to some, it's more of a choke job than an upset. . .

IDK, and he rejected that? He signed with the Blue Jackets for $9.75 didn't he? For a measly $450000K more?

Probably can't sign Bratt or Palat in that case.

Yeah, just saw the Trouba hit. Ugly.
Sure, Meier needs to keep his head up, but Trouba can also just not absolutely crush a player in a vulnerable position.
I love big hits, but that contact was basically 100% head.

Devil's are probably happy they didn't give Gaudreau 9.3x7 or whatever
How do you take 9.3 out this year let alone moving forward

According to Lebrun the Devils didn't offer him more than 9 per season.
Probably why he panicked and took the Jackets offer.

It would be pretty awesome if Devils play the Stars, 2 rookie goalies outplaying each other.

Didn’t watch the game today but just saw highlights. Man the Devils ourworked the Rangers. Palat outworked the Rangers while shorthanded on that 1st goal. Embarrassing effort on that play by the Rangers. Wow.

No, because it was a clean hit. TM got caught looking down and got crushed for it.

The head was still the principle point of contact. There have been similar hits where things like this happened and there was supplementary discipline. I don't think the rule says anything about players having their head down.

Then you might as well take hitting completely out of the game. Do you realize how fast things develop out there? Trouba is going in for a big hit and Meier puts himself in a dangerous by not being aware and puck watching. I actually hate Trouba and I think he has a history of dirty hits but this is not one of them.

Zero chance.
Literally cannot discipline someone who, by the book, did nothing illegal.
Unfortunate result, but you cannot punish that.

Man, to me, the Devils were always the superior team. My only thought was maybe they would suffer that first round loss that a lot of teams on the rise have. Like Florida had last year.

Amen. Here's the rule. It's subsection i, exactly how it's written. Trouba hits hard, but hits clean.

Call me crazy but I think I'm OK with no more big open ice hits if it means star players don't get their careers altered with concussions. The game is just as enjoyable without them.

It was clean by the rule book but clearly predatory as the puck was several feet away from his stick at that point he put his shoulder into him. Definitely one of the dirtiest players in the league.

Not just star players for me. I don't enjoy seeing anyone get needlessly messed up like that.
The head was the main point of contact, it was not a situation where hitting him in the head was unavoidable, and Trouba clearly makes no effort to avoid hitting him in the head. It looks totally predatory and dirty to me.
