I agree they were the better team for 45 minutes, but real minutes. That’s the first period plus a bit of the intermission lol

Flames didn't allow a shot for the 1st 5 minutes - and then the first shot against went in and the Knights pinned their ears back to get the tying goal.
It's never good to only get one shot in a period, and I do think Sutter has them sitting back too much with a lead (sitting back is never good when the goalies cant make a save), but for last night I do think that goal really killed their confidence.
Part of it does feel still though that the coach has them playing not to lose instead of playing to win though.

JG used to win some battles along the boards (yes I know EDM game 5 OT), but does Huberdeau? Very few it seems. He is supposed to be stronger.

We agree on the last part. That was a ridiculous third period. Terrible strategy. 1 shot is absolutely inexcusable

Watched the first two periods and was encouraged. I was unable to watch the third, just caught the final score. Not sure how to feel. If you told me the flames would go to vegas on a back-to-back and get a point I wouldn't be mad. But considering the flames played a great first and a decent second and were up by two going into the third and lost..... that sucks.

Well at least they didn’t cough up the two goals in the last two minutes like in OTT.
But blown leads, and inability to lock things down remains a storyline of a disappointing season. Not much runway left unfortunately.

Even if it’s late in the PP, there are a few extra seconds even beyond the end of the PP where the guy has to get back in to the play. They should go back to PP1.
Every other team does it.
Except the Oilers because 97 plays the whole PP lol

If Lucic was any other player he would be scratched after the last two games. He was cherry picking on the third AZ goal and was coasting in the neutral zone on the second Knights goal last night. We make fun of McDavid for doing that crap.
If that's a young player they are not getting into the lineup the next game. Let alone playing key minutes.
There is something off about Sutter's player deployments.

I have been negative on this team all year. And I'm still leaning towards they dont have it, and this was a tough loss to swallow. But..... if they win tommorow and take 5 of a possible 6 on the road. How can anyone say thats a failure or this team not showing some life?
So ill reserve my disgust for this team until after tommorows game. They win, maybe I shouldnt count them out. If they lose and get 3 of 6. Than theyve showed me what we all have been seeing that theyre a .500 team and we need to start focusing on the future rather than this year.

After last night's game thats the first time in my life I have seen Calgary lose 2 games in a row in person. Disappointing.

Yup. Lucic made a soft play along the side boards on a Lewis rim around and then proceeded to lollygag back on what was the turning point of the game. Sure, it was a weak one by Vladar, but those are not plays or efforts that any other player would be getting away with.
The only thing keeping Lucic in the NHL is his contract and relationship with the head coach. I like the guy but his day's as an NHL player are over.

I re-watched it again and Lucic literally quit skating at the far blue line. If they don't score on the rush it's a 5on4 until Lucic coasts back into the zone and gets to his wing (where he is useless).
But it's Phillips and Ruzcika that don't play complete games and aren't dressed.

Ya he’s had a great season. For Hanifin. Which isn’t saying much. There’s a reason why Carolina let him go. The guy is prone to huge mistakes much like Weegar. And why does he always look unhappy? He shows flashes of what he can be offensively then minutes later he can be completely boneheaded. Maybe he’s bipolar lol. I’m sure Anderson is suffering playing with him. Trade him if you can hit a home run.

Next three games, Colorado, the Leafs and Boston. That should finish this teams hopes off.

That’s what I was thinking when I looked at their schedule
Pheonix
Vegas
Colorado
Boston
Leafs
Wild
Stars
Wild
I figured if they didn’t win both against the wild and get 6 of the 12 points in the other games they’d be done. So far they have 3.
Lose the next 3 and I think it’s bye bye 2023 Flames.

You won't win many games with 1 shot on net.
Huberdeau said it best we needed to keep playing for offence.
We need some more big saves as well.
It's just not a good team this year they don't have it and the coaching has been brutal.
See what you can do with what you have and reload in the offseason with a fresh roster and coach.

The games are all back-to-backs for those teams though. I can see the Flames getting points from them like against Vegas.

Hanafin is an interesting player. He’s basically Brodie for me, in that, he’s defensively decent but susceptible to weak plays/odd bad plays that are quite glaring. Offensively, more or less useless and a brutal/muffin shot, though he’s ok at skating with the puck. I do wonder if hanafin matures to the point Brodie has where the defensive brain farts become less common (Brodie has been terrific in Toronto from my viewings).
In any regard, I see hanafin and weegar as essentially redundant players for what they bring. I don’t want to see the team going into next season having both on the roster. The question is do you keep the older weegar who’s signed long term or the younger hanafin who may end up being better but more costly?

Brodie was/is way better offensively.
