The Calgary draft pick. He’s a career minor league guy who I think will be sort of a player coach for the Wranglers.
isn't Brett Darryl's son? and didn't Darryl trade him away when he was gm?? or was that a different sutter kid that Darryl traded? it's hard to keep track! ha! ha!

This is Brett Sutter, Darryl's son who has a previous goal as a Calgary Flame in his 4 games here. Minor leaguer most of his career. He has kind of always hung around his dad's organization, he played a lot with the King's AHL team when Darryl was the King's coach.
Brandon Sutter is Brent's son. He had long covid while with the Canucks and hasn't played for several seasons now.

It's the same one (Darryl's son). He also had an off-ice issue when he was in the NHL still. Got drunk and punched a cab driver or something, then Sutter traded him. I am sure he has smartened up since then.

From up top tonight. Huberdeau looked decent but lots to work on with the linemates. Was obvious Backlund line had played together before. A nice start to the pre-season. Impressive that the kids in Vancouver came out on top.
Went to the rink for this one. Dube was the hardest working Flame IMO. He was fired up tonight and was very noticeable. Eakin was also very good, even when not taking his gifted goal into consideration. Rasmus, after his couple of wiffs was incredibly solid defensively and led the Flames in ice time. Best defender on the ice all game.
Weegar and Huberdeau looked like a couple of the team’s best players holding back to not embarrass the baby Canucks and save the next gear for regular season.
Vladar didn’t have much work for two periods but was technically perfect on everything. Dansk only faced 4 shots.
Poolman was the least good Flame tonight. Had a few bad turnovers and wasn’t strong defensively from what I saw.
Both Milano and Zary were working hard but it just seemed like it wasn’t their night to make much happen. Didn’t see last years Duehr but he didn’t have the best line mates to work with.
Backlund, Coleman and Toffoli didn’t look rusty at all. They looked ready for regular season already.
Refs were penalty happy today so most of the game was a PP/PK practice. Fortunately mostly Flames powerplay.
The Oiler fans were significantly embarrassed by the Lost Fan on the jumbotron.

I was also there tonight. Pretty solid effort considering first game, linemate newness, etc. My wife’s favorite player was Eakin because he looks like a scraggly farmboy. His goal was kinda hilarious - he almost missed .
