Leadership, you forgot leadership. The fact that he called Huberdeau after he got traded speaks to how important he is in that room. 1 year at 3.75 or 5.25 for that matter isn’t bad at all.
There are definitely albatross contracts in this league, his isn’t one of them.
Leadership isn't worth millions a year. A guy with 1 goal in his last 50 games is probably worth about 1-1.5 million at most.
$5 million on a guy playing ten minutes per night is a massive drag on team performance.

Tell us how you really feel lol.
There is nothing you can say about Lucic and how he has played since the trade that will convince it wasn’t a resounding win for Calgary. I’ll jot it down in point form:
1. Edmonton Signed him to the contract in the first place
2. They also paid 750K AAV for the duration of the contract for him to play for their bitter rival
3. They then also payed a 3rd round pick that became a 3rd and 6th round pick for Calgary after flipping it to Toronto
4. Having to pay the third due to narrowly missed conditions Lucic described as hilarious https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1973493/amp
5. The Oilers are now paying Neal 1.9 to not play for them and play in a lesser league, a move that many Oilers fans try to claim was the clear moment the Oilers ‘won’ the trade
6. For the majority of the time that Lucic has been on Calgary since the trade they’ve performed better outside of a playoff round than the Oilers, in no way is Lucic’s 10 mins such a drag on the team that it’s a noticeable detriment (he’s averaged 12:59 in his 3 years with Calgary)
7. At no point since or during the trade have I been disappointed for how it’s turned out, James Neal was a ###### and Edmonton thought so much so that they turfed him; Looch is the man and is beloved and rightfully so he’s a fierce competitor
8. The more you try to convince me Lucic is terrible the more I’ll smile! Heck I’m holding out hope he some how returns in trade for Calgary more than what Hall returned in trade for Edmonton lol

What does any of that have to do with Lucic's current cap value?
If the Flames could move him, they'd have room to acquire a first line forward.
I assume he's unmovable or he would have been moved by now.

I am not sure he is unmovable but he is definitely going to play his last year in the league this year. Hard to imagine anyone giving him a league minimum contract in 23/24.
Lucic only has a million remaining on his salary. That makes him appealing to some teams. But those teams are probably not the ones on his approved list. The ones he would agree to be moved for don't have the cap space making this a tough deal to make. The Flames could pass bad money for bad money, but the coach likes Lucic so it's tough to find an upgrade that way.
I hope Lucic does get moved. His slot would be better filled with a minimum wage prospect. But any move is probably a lateral one that doesn't make sense. My guess is he starts the year with the Flames.

Unless a team is trying to get to the cap floor, I am not sure why anyone would take Lucic. He's still an NHL player with toughness and leadership, but insanely overpriced. If the Flames have an opportunity to move him, they certainly should.
I have a hard time seeing the Bruins go after him simply for nostalgia's sake. He's a perfect candidate for AZ since he's not owed a lot of real money, but he has a huge cap it. Perfect for their economics.

Murphy commented about RA’s tweet regarding the Lucic to Boston rumors and RA replied “rumor?”
How do you all read that? RA didn’t think he was saying Lucic to Boston with the initial tweet or the he is replying saying it so not a rumor and it is a fact this will be legit going down?

He knows full well the implications of his initial tweet alone and not responding to comments ha ha
Therefore I take it as something … is happening!!
