Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli might make more sense than Mangiapane.
Toffoli is a great sniper but isn't fast enough to create his own opportunities. If Huberdeau can feed him, and then Mangiapane can continue with Backlund and Coleman, that might be our best bet

Did somebody say Huberdeau spends a lot of time in Calgary over the summer?

5 years younger and now cap controlled. Plus tkachuk is only 32 at the end of it

Resign both. We are back in win mode for a while.
Holy .
I shouldn't ever doubt Treliving.

Man I hope Tre is certain that both players will sign extensions. Otherwise it's a one year experiment. I suppose they'll both be great trade bait for some picks at the deadline if they won't sign before. Then the rebuild will be on which isn't the worst.
Great players and if they extend this is a good deal.

This is a spectacular trade.
Worse case is they both get traded at the deadline for a boatload.
Which is miles ahead of where we were earlier today.
We needed a dman to man the PP, we now have him.

I think this could be a potentially massive win for Calgary. It’s trading a 100 point winger for another 100 point winger, a top-3 d a prospect and a first. That doesn’t even take into account that the asset you traded made it clear they didn’t want to be here.

The extra layer to this is we replaced Johnny with another Johnny who plays the same position and does it better.
This is fascinating and hilarious on many levels.
We can give him the same goal song.

I imagine the Panthers felt they needed to get “harder to play against”. They weren’t happy with the performance of the team in the playoffs, so they’ve changed the coach and got skilled grit in MT in lieu of pure high skill.
Huberdeau will be great opposite either Mangiapane or Toffoli.
Can anyone give me some more insight on Weegar?

What this does it make this team mediocre for the next 3-4 year. Might make the playoffs a couple times, might miss, but never good enough to be a consistent Cup threat.
I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer but this is the exact opposite of what I wanted to happen. I will say though, I expected worse if the Flames were going to go in this direction.
|
It’s not a rebuild but that was never going to be their direction with this owner.
If the goal was to try to win this is huge. People are really underrating Weegar here, he’s a top 20 dman and dmen age well generally.
We also had no concerns with signing Gaudreau for the same years.
I’m not certain we are worse next year, especially if they go get Kadri and move Lucic now. Promote Pelletier.

This is a clear win for the Flames and Treliving. Could be the biggest trade in Flames history, next to the one that got us Lanny McDonald.
