I wouldn't be surprised if Hartley released it to mess with the Oilers.

It certainly isn't ideal to know that a member of your team is already checked out and committed to moving on right in the middle of the playoffs. Even if he is a pending UFA back-up goalie. If I was the Oilers management, I would probably just pull him out and dress Skinner.
