Also no rule 5 draft this year, which is good for the Jays they had a couple good prospects that might have been taken.

Great news lock is over, will be curious to hear all of the moves over the next couple of days
With training camp to open very soon, there are some big names to be signed.
Would think the teams have that type of stuff already arranged

This is gonna be a fun little free agent frenzy.
Freeman to the Jays would be a lot of fun

Were there not rumblings of Kris Bryant being a Jays target?

Best news I've heard in an otherwise terrible week.
Cannot wait to watch some Jays. Vladdy has been training his bag off it looks like and is going to absolutely kill it (again) this season.
Hopefully we can lock in a premier 3B and really start going for it.

The Athletic has a take today on Freeman and the Jays.
Quote:
The Blue Jays could use another big lefty bat, and Freeman is among the best. Outside of that, however, he’s an awkward fit because a guy named Vladimir Guerrero Jr. plays first base. And more than another first baseman, the club needs an impact second or third baseman. Sure, Freeman could be a DH, but in the past, the Blue Jays have preferred to spread that role around. But, we all love a good ol’ Can-Con pairing, — yes, Canada has claimed Freddie as our own — so it’s fun to imagine a future where Freeman is on the Blue Jays.
|
Also, Bryant.
Quote:
The Blue Jays have a Semien-sized hole in their infield. Marcus Semien was one of the best players in the league last year, so he’ll be tough — if not impossible — to replace. Kris Bryant at least has MVP pedigree and his 2021 season was a nice bounce-back from his down 2020. He could fill Toronto’s vacancy at third base and also play some first base or left field. The Blue Jays typically love versatility. Bryant hits from the right side, which doesn’t help their lineup imbalance, but his career .376 on-base percentage would be a nice complement to the Blue Jays’s collection of aggressive swingers.

God it feels so much better to be talking about free agency and Spring Training rather than CBT thresholds and bonus pool money.

I’d be thrilled with Freeman, Bryant, Correa (astronomically unlikely).
Schwarber would be a great add too, but doesn’t fit positionally very well

Yeah, Schwarber only really fits if they find a taker for Grichuk. Use him as a 4th OF and DH.
The Freeman talk is so confusing unless the Jays FO is contemplating moving Vladdy back to 3B for at least a solid chunk of games per season. He is in way better shape and has a great arm, so maybe it would work?

I don't think Freeman is a good idea personally. Vlad's body type is way better suited to 1st in the long term. Personally I'd still splurge on RP, and the OF, but they probably don't need to spend on a big name if I'm being objective about it. I really want another 30 year old vet though, as the team does look fairly young and inexperienced.

PS: anyone in Toronto for April 8th can go to ticketmaster right now and purchase home opener tickets. The prices are pretty inflated but YOLO. Scored some 200 level in the OF. Home openers are always a wild atmosphere.

Random question
What was the name of the pitcher, for the Jays, who had a good season a few years back but then got caught using PEDs which he denied

My memory of Colabello is him celebrating with Jose after the homerun vs Rangers

Can't wait for the season to start! Just a couple more weeks. Glad that there are expanded playoffs, as well. The division is stacked.
