If they finish this thing off with the gold, it will be the most unlikely win in 60 years when a group of amateurs went and took it from what were the very best that Sweden, USSR, Czechoslovakia, and other iron curtain countries had to offer, led by the guy in my avatar.

Hardly
Canada still has the most NHL players, and no team has anything close to their best roster this year.

Still. Good on Canada for grinding their way to the final.
Seems more satisfying than watching a full NHL squad beat Latvia 21-0.
Hopefully this builds on Mangiapane’s confidence level for next year. Really to bad Dube didn’t get to participate.

If you want to get technical, the last and only gold in this particular tournament for USA was in 1933
The 1960 world championship was awarded to the winner of the Olympic tournament.

Im not sure how that equates to this being the most unlikely win if they get it.
This club was not expected to be in the finals.....period.
Russia, and the USA were the two most mentioned by the pundits and the round robin showed that in spades.
Canada doesn't lose to a Latvia or Germany, yet they did. 2 goals scored in their first 3 games.

There's a huge difference between "not expected to make the final" and actually being considered an upset winner.
This year's tournament was a free-for-all, and Canada was very much one of the "all".

This team could easily have not made the quarterfinals.
They progressively got better as the tourney went on. Cool to watch.

Finland beats Germany and will face Canada in the final.
Replay of the 2019 final.
As a curiosity, Germany also has a primarily Finnish coaching staff, including the head coach, assistant coach and goalie coach. Don't think I've ever seen that.

If it will give him a huge boost, that's awesome. I think he is well aware of who he is playing against. If a Flame had a great game in an exhibition game with AHLers I would also take it with a grain of salt.

Still killing it, even with the upgrade in competition.

Eaty my freaking Bready.
Still think he tops out at 50-60 points but he could replace some of what Sam Bennett gave us in the playoffs with the way he elevates.
His goal vs Avs in game one is still one of my favorite in recent memory.

Still can’t get over the execution of the move by Stetcher in the QF OT.
The individual move isn’t new, pulled of in the NHL regularly and my beer league. But it’s usually more an unnecessary move and/or, doesn’t lead to much after the move.
In this case, it was pulled of perfectly, and the whole sequence played out because the move was executed to perfection; the fake from the shot froze the top guy, made the one defender fall to block it... and the momentum Stetcher had from putting it in his feet basically also allowed him to go wide and past the the down low defender who was a bit frozen from the fake shot...and the first defender who fell down for the fake got up and was watching the puck with Stetcher suddenly going wide, and drifted over there to leave Mangipane open on the far side. Stetcher continued the move after the initial fake with another shoulder fake and backhand pass across the crease.
All around a fantastic goal.
