Sillinger (C)
Lucius (C)
Raty (C)
McTavish (C)
Ceulemans (D)
Coronato (LW)

We have a good chance of drafting a top notch C or D prospect. I know BPA is preached, but the draft is so tight this year that positional need could very well be the way to go. For the Flames, we need help in all departments. Personally speaking, I would like to get one of Powers, Hughes, or Clarke.
If we were to somehow end up with Carson Lambos, that would give us a good D prospect going forward as well, much better than Ceulemans. Lambos had 32 pts in 57 games LAST year in the WHL, which would indicate that he'd be tearing it up this year if he had played more than 2 games.

I still think the dream scenario would be to end up with one of Guenther, Beniers, or Johnson-those 3 have strong potential to be top-line players.

That's fair. I forgot about Lambos.

I think our hope (and what I see happening) is we will be picking 10th-12th, hoping that one of the top 8 fall to us.

A player to watch, and one who will be a big riser on draft day IMO, is RW Sasha Pastujov. Not huge (6'0"), but has it all-compete, skating, shot, 200ft ability, and is said to be one of the best playmakers in the draft. Can play a grinding game, or a finesse game. Put up big numbers in the USHL, and is currently tied for first in the U-18 tournament with 4 points (2g,2a) in 2 games. I could easily see him being taken in the 10-15 range.

I doubt he'll still be on the board when we pick but i think we should shoot for Brandt Clarke as the best prospect in this draft. IMO

Clarke
Beniers
Power
Johnson
Guenther

are the top 5 players. After that it becomes much more difficult to tell.

He will jump for sure. Not certain how high though. I took him in the 2nd round d yesterday with the FC mock draft tool lol.

Ended up being Kent Johnson, Sasha Pastujov and Ilya Safonov in the first 3 picks.

What's the general feel about the top goalie prospect? I mean he has a great name for a goalie, nickname will for sure be "the Wall". He kind of reminds me of Vashilevsky for some reason.

If he is still there past 10 (assuming we are #13/14/15) and none of the top 8 budged, I would definitely go for it.

Could also maybe get one of the playoff teams pay through the roof to move up to grab him. Nashville was going to do that with their pick if Askarov wasn’t there at 11 last year.

First overall is first overall - I’ll take it, no question.

Just sucks to draft first and have a fraction of the information and tape on these players that you’d normally have - the draft is already a crapshoot, but 1 OA is usually safe.

Like everything these days, it’s less safe.

Clarke is currently the leading scorer in the U-18s with 4pts in 1 game.

Yeah, there’s no way he goes past Buffalo/Ottawa

Owen Power is NHL sized already... he would be a really interesting add to the Flames. He’d be 6 right away, surrounded by vets.

I know I am not qualified talent scout, but just as a layman watching pre-draft videos, I don't see what is so exciting about Beniers. It seems like Johnson is the one that makes things happen.

I know nothing about Owen Power outside of seeing his name tossed around as a potential high pick; however, I'm always leery of guys who are already NHL sized, and dominating teenagers. That advantage evaporates pretty quickly against NHL opponents.
I see that he's playing in the NCAA this season, so maybe he's proving himself against physically stronger competition.

I think power will be alright if not spectacular. But imo Clarke is a special talent.

Normally I wouldn't be too excited for a player like Owen Power.

I've seen reports that question his decision-making, offensive upside and ability to play while under pressure.

But at the same time, I can't think of any players in this draft that are so specially designed to play under a coach like Sutter.
With Sutter as coach, I think Power could develop to be phenomenal.

But with that said, the Flames would only pick him if they won the lottery. And if they were to pick that high, it would be hard to pass on potential centers.
