I mean, when enough of the "well known" guys are repeating it where there is smoke there is usually fire. But like you guys, I can't see him going to Edmonton.
Then again, I couldn't see him choosing Calgary over the Avs, so what do I know.

Lol, Oilers and make the play-offs. I finally find one of your jokes funny!

Hey Blaster I'm with you. I live on the Island and listen to the fan 650 all day.
And at this point I have just as much as an idea on the Flames as I do the Canucks.
And Blaster hasn't said anything even slightly crazy.

Hopefully when the Flames make their pitch to Markstrom it includes a highlight clip of Mcavi and raisaitl playing defense.
Gimme a break.

Proselytizing is an important part of Canucks fandom.

You might have multiple windows open but seeing your level of activity here tells me it's mostly being spent in calgary land.
I know our side of the street is more interesting but maybe scale it back a little there, free Willy. The cow people are talking.

When the cow people talk alone they convince themselves David Rittich is a good choice, like last off-season and the off-season before that. My activity is saving you from yourselves.

Would be exciting to have a reliable #1 in net at least for a couple seasons. It'll have been a long time since we've been able to do that. Obviously with Markstrom on the wrong side of 30 anybody signing him to a long term deal will only get worse in time, hoping that his performance in the first half will makeup for the overpay in the second half.

The last time the Flames had a goalie on their NHL roster with more than two years left on his contract? Kiprusoff in 2011.

The prospect of signing Markstrom to a long term deal makes me want to puke.
If the Oilers sign him I will be extremely happy. It will cripple their franchise more than any move they've made since they got Adam Larson.
If Treliving signs him. That'll be the last big mistake he makes. Unfortunately it'll continue to harm the Flames long after he's gone.
I really hope Treliving is just raising the price, like he may have done with Josh Anderson on Columbus.
But the fact that we are hearing Markstrom rumors and not Hall rumors is not promising.
Imagine a 37 year old goalie who only had a career 91.1% while he was at his prime (30).
I wouldn't be surprised if Markstrom's career save percentage is 90.3 or lower by the end of this contract (if it' s6+ years).

Thing playing in the favor of the team that signs him is he hasn't played a lot of hockey for his age.
Also known as the Mark Giordano Young n' Fresh factor.
It's become pretty standard for number ones to play effective hockey till 35 even if they are pretty seasoned anyways.

You severely underestimate Markstrom.

At a certain point I think the Flames need to take a swing on a goalie.
It's been far too long since they had a long-term solution in net but the thing is, they haven't even been looking at real long-term solutions. Rittich obviously was a project but they've used him in tandem with a whole ton of flawed stop-gap options. As I said, it's been nearly a decade since they had a goalie on the team with more than two years on his contract. That's crazy.

The swing should be by trade/draft, not free agency.
Many goalies acquired via trade have won cups.
Most cup winning goalies are drafted by the team that wins.
Going back to 1960, zero cups have been won by goalies (with prior NHL experience) signed as free agents.
The problem with the Flames isn't the lack of continuity in net. The problem is that the Flames haven't drafted and developed a goalie in decades.
If they can't do this, then history says they should at least go all-in on a trade.

I watched the last Flames Canucks game live, and even though we won 5-2,
I sat behind Markstrom for 2 of 3 periods.
That dude is an all star and deserves every penny he gets.

All that makes me think is that's overdue to change.

Be honest, how many Canucks games did you watch last season? Markstrom was the best goalie in the league for me, numbers don't tell you everything.
NHL GMs thought he was 4th best. Vancouver would have been in the basement with average goal tending, there is a reason teams are lining up and he is the most sought after.
Christ sakes you have me thanking Blaster Posts
