It is funny reading this thread. Some players should be shot to the moon, some players shouldn't return next season, so and so cost us the game. It sucks we lost, but you can't blame one guy on that last 0.1 goal, it was a fluke, a lucky goal.
They will bounce back, that was another entertaining game and I think they will build on that one. The road trip isn't a loss yet!
Talbot in the net next game. Rittich hasn't earned the next start, but this loss wasn't his fault.

2nd goal) Same two defensive pairing - Forbort and Gustafson - however, the Flames running around in their own zone leading to Josi scoring coming in from the point. A weak goal that tied the game 2-2. Not sure if the puck hit Gustafson's stick and got deflected under Rittich's armpit area.
3rd goal) - WTF with Tkachuk in that final few seconds? Defensive breakdown again with Geo standing around on the opposite side of the goal post, Tkachuk standing 10 feet out not covering anyone, and Brodie left Granlund alone out front and Lindholm and Geo coverage was just bad.
OT goal) WTF was Gustafson doing and why is he out there in OT 3-on-3? Also, Tkachuk and Backlund were culprits in an awful play.
To me, this game should have been won with less than 10 seconds to go. The Flames have a stupid habit of running around in their own zone and not getting the damn puck out. Overtime loss was all on coaching as Gustafson was put out. This is just a bad loss. Rittich played well enough to win, the team let him down.
On the bright side, Backlund is a frickin beast! Him and Mange are flying on that second line!

Obviously scoring chances and shots occur due to a variety of reasons, that's why they have a goalie in the first place.
The 2nd to last game tying goal went under Rittich's arm, even he will tell you he should have had it (we clearly agree). The game tying goal with .2 seconds to go he was like a fish out of water. The game should have never even got to OT.
If the Flames are going to make it to the playoffs and win games, Rittich needs to be better.

So you didn’t even see it, you are basing your comments on what you are reading?
Because if you watched, there could be no interference on the OT goal.
Yet you complained about Ward without actually seeing the play.
Now that is bad.

Looks like the team is playing a lot better, can't expect to win them all.
Someone said a winning streak starts before you actually start winning (play vs results) and the same goes for losing streaks. The play that the team has showed for the last 3 months have been poor, but they still managed a decent result.
Now they are playing a lot better and the results will come. If the top line starts heating up they could go on a really good run.
I'm still not sold on Rittich however, he makes amazing saves on almost impossible shots at times, but he needs to improve that consistency if he's to be a 1A goal tender. Obviously the raw talent is there.

None of this makes any sense. They did not enter the zone with 4 seconds to go.

I’m not loving the highlight of Rittich beating the holy hell out of his stick as he leaves the ice. He comes pretty close to braining poor Johnny behind him. Relax, Dave. Win the next one.

How many times does that goal go in if you run that play back 100 times?
Backlund scored an amazing goal against Boston that was an 8th of an inch fr9m deflecting out into the benches.
Tkachuk scored on saros with .9 seconds left in overtime between the legs from 15 feet out.
Sometimes a little 26 millimeter piece of rubber ends up in a net.

Pardon me -- 7, 9, 11 seconds, whatever. Feel free to extrapolate. My point: As danger increases with less than 15 bloody seconds on the clock, take a goddamn penalty, freeze play, take a breath, use a time out, and steer it home.

Absolute heartbreaker and it hurts. ARGH! Talk about riding the emotional tidal wave from the high point of the winning goal to sinking at the tying goal and then swearing when they lost it in OT.

Slept on it and unfortunately still feel the same way.......FLAMES SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN 2 POINTS!!!!!!!
The good news is that I feel the flames have turned a corner and are upping their game. They continue like this for the next 17 games, not only will they make the playoffs, they will get by the first round.

Plus, lost in all of this is the fact that the Flames' second goal was super lucky.

Flames played well enough to win. Rittich wasn't at his best and the bounces went Nashvilles way.
Happens.
The thing to take away is that the team has been playing a lot better lately.
Backs and Mangi are playing great to help out the top line which is still hit and miss. But still much better than in the past.
Is Tkachuk the weak link on his line? Seems a little behind at times and reckless at other times. Last night's OT being an example.

One of the big concerns this year was how fragile this team is. Now they have been playing well, but run into a crushing late loss. Here is where we'll see how resilient they are or if they are in fact that fragile. Tomorrow will be fascinating.

Ward could have locked this one up, IMO. It's amazing to me how many NHL coaches are bafflingly bad at game management.

Tampa is also riding a 4 game losing streak at the moment.
All the factors added up, it just seems like an automatic loss doesn't it?
Very interesting game upcoming.
