To this point, that #Canes player has wished to remain anonymous. It's his story to tell, until then.
We have video of another current coach punching a guy in the head...where is/was the outrage and investigation

N word is enough to can Peters, some of this stuff seems like piling on IMO

I would be absolutely shocked if he is not fired before game day. The delay at the moment isnt some giant investigation. It's about HR and Legal and Marketing/Public Relations preparing the necessary paperwork and message.

I don't believe this for a second. You think BT knew about all these things and still hired Bill Peters? Get real.

Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski
I have it good authority that No. 1 is essentially what's happening right now.

@wyshynski
Three possible reasons Bill Peters hasn't been fired by Flames:

1. Lawyers haven't figured out this stuff yet.
2. An actual investigation has to be done by the Flames so the lawyers can figure out this stuff.
3. Buying time to give Peters a Hail Mary apology?

Would it change your mind if the employee's contract and a representation by the employee that he had not behaved in the past in a certain manner?

And employee's past directly relates to his character today with respect to certain matters.

Edit**** I just read the Ailu statement of how the word was used and it was in the worst possible way.
Also saw something about Commodore not liking Peters at all.... can't wait for Chiclets to bring him back!

I wonder if we will ever get to know the context / frequency the inappropriate word was used. Not that it makes a difference but I know this isn't the only instance where such a word was used by a coach in a dressing room. Anyone watching Monday night football last night heard it more than once from players on the field.

Again.... in no way was it right but I am curious if it was used in a direct manner or a manner how we hear in rap songs or on the football field.... one more time so I don't get attacked for assuming this was ok ... I know it isn't but one is much worse than the other IMO.

In the current society where a headline can come across as fact to everyone who reads it, the Flames have no option but to fire Peters. It will be a cloud that will continue to hang over the team until he is gone regardless of how much or little evidence is found.

it just feels to me that guys like Babcock and Peters are universally hated by the players and now they finally can get that stuff out. Personally I'm glad that #### is finally coming to light so that the necessary steps can be taken.

Not talking about the racism but to think he couldn't or didn't find out about how he treated players on the last team he coached is naive.

Man, Peters is really taking it from all sides now, players coming out everywhere to call out the guy.

I really had no idea the guy was so toxic. Good to get him out of the league and good for the Flames to move on and start anew and just play hockey again. What a crappy situation all around.

Good on Akim to come forward and start all of this. Totally respect the guy and totally understand why he waited years to say what he said.

Bill Peters being a hardass is basically the entire reason he was hired.

The flames burned through a player coach. Enter the taskmaster.

Like, this was a targeted hire, do you guys honestly think this reputation was well established around the league and Tteliving just didn't know? I'm not talking specifics like Alius allegations, but his general reputation as being a near universally disliked #######.

Doesn't this speak to Trelivings team building and organizational philosophy?

Based on his last two coaching hires, does anyone have faith or trust in Tres ability to pick a coach going forward?

Unless a law has been broken, and in this instance a law has not been broken, then I see no reasonable expectation for firing the guy. I don't know where you work, but if you fire someone without cause that leaves you open to a pretty good lawsuit. Considering the possible outcomes as a result of the Flames actions, this could be a pretty good lawsuit.

Do I find the use of the N word unacceptable? Yes, I do. But I continually hear the use of the word by blacks in conversations with other blacks, especially athletes. So that really weakens the argument of the unacceptability of the word IMO. I wince every time I hear it, but I find the double standard to its use unacceptable as well. No one should be using it regardless of color or ethnicity.

If you fire Peters for using the N word a decade ago, you establish a very slippery slope. How long before you have to fire someone for calling someone a homosexual slur (heard on a near ice mic this week during a game)? It's a tough standard to set, especially when there is no one in the Flames organization that can substantiate the claim or has seen similar behavior. I'm all for firing the guy, as I never wanted him hired in the first place, but this just seems like the wrong reason to do it.

It's fairly obvious to me that this is something entirely different than what you are painting it out to be. This is a movement triggered by the Babcock firing revolving around what kind of behavior is acceptable from a coach. Peters may not even be the last one affected by what is happening now, we will have to wait and see. The Aliu allegation has blown up since it's very far across the line, and it should cost Peters his job as he is a public figure in a position where PR is everything, but there are more and more players speaking up on the subject. It might even turn into a paradigm shift where oldschool hard ass coaches are ultimately cleaned out completely.

Also, it would certainly not be the worst thing in the world if someone got fired for a homophobic slur. Maybe it would enlighten people who are still in the dark that the times are in fact changing.

This whole deal with Babcock and Peters thing made me think. As much of a hardass and task master as Bill Belichik is I don't remember hearing stories like this come out about him. I think you can be that no nonsense, all business kind of coach without being hateful.
