Keep in mind even if Talbot has a verbal agreement to sign with the Flames, there is nothing either side can do to enforce the agreement.
Flames thought they were getting Patrick Sharp a couple of years ago until Chicago came in with an offer at the last minute.

I mean, it was assumed they always did but had to keep quiet about it during the courting period. But now money/term get leaked all the time.

The NHL sent a memo a few years ago that they are not supposed to, but it doesn't look like the agents or teams really care about complying.

Not being able to talk term and money during the courting period is odd anyways.
Team: "We're interested."
Player: "How interested?"
Team: "We'll let you know on July 1"
Player: "Ok, thanks for having me."
Team: "Thanks for flying out. Have your agent check his email on July 1"

UPD: Strickland: Cam Talbot will sign a 1 year deal with the Flames
Tandem (unofficially) in place prior to July 1, and I think it will be a stronger duo than what we had last year.

.912 in front of that Oilers squad is actually pretty unreal lol. I'm excited to see what Talbot can bring here!

I watched way too many Oilers games for my own good over the past few years, Talbot stood on his head many, many times. The last year he just looked deflated. Their defense is utterly useless.

I would be pretty happy with a Rittich-Talbot tandem. Neither goalie would be expected to carry the load but either one has the potential to get hot for long stretches.

How many this guy scored gifs did we post during the Talbot years where he was utterly abandoned by his team. I'm surprised he didn't file a lawsuit against the stinkbomb known as the Oilers for abandonment. He probably had a major case of the stress shakes after he left the Oilers last year.
However we need to make no mistake that this is Dave's team now unless he steps on his crank during off season training or in training camp.

He's been my #1 target for well over a year. Really happy about this. And I think if he performs well there would be no reason that he doesn't come back.
On step at a time though.

Pretty happy if this turns out to be true. Talbot was pretty good even on a horrible Oilers team so he should be even better with us. It’ll be quite the swap if we get Talbot and they get Smith.

I think this is a mistake, if it's true that Robin Lehner hits the open market... otherwise, I like it.

So they hold off with some hope of landing Lehner
Don't get him
Miss out on Talbot
And then end up where?

way too expensive. Plus I'd be shocked if he didn't re-sign with the Isles when all is said and done.
Really happy with Talbot.

Yah, I don't think Lehner is a realistic option. If his contract demands are so that he hasn't signed with the Isles yet, I'm guessing he's looking for something like $6M per year. I do not want to commit that to a guy who's had the one stellar year.

I still think if you can convince Lehner to sign, you do it and find a new home for Rittich.
Of course he’ll be more expensive, because he’s good and he’s still young. You don’t get something for nothing. We’ve been scraping the bargain bin ever since Kipper left and look where it’s led.

Well that'd just be dumb, wouldn't it... so likely not what I meant
This thread reads as though the deal is already 'done'... I'm suggesting that's a mistake if Lehner becomes available, as I'd as least want to check in on that possibility before committing to Talbot. I have no idea of Lehner's interest nor demands, so the actual signing of Talbot may still be best, in that scenario.
My understanding of the Lehner situation is that he hasn't talked to any other teams, other than NYI, but only yesterday announced that it might not work out. Therefore, I'm assuming Teliving has come to an agreement with Talbot without the knowledge of Lehner being available.

Haha, so you're saying that you understand this whole situation better than Treliving?
Yeah, Brad's just sitting around reading random tweets and CP.
