The games are on in the middle of the day while I'm at work so I try to follow along in the game thread, but I couldn't believe what I was reading.

When I sat down to watch, all I could do was smile. That game was fun. It was fun seeing the Flames come back and turn the game completely around. The PP was clicking and the top line went off. I agree with kermitology that most of the goals against weren't the goalie's fault (except goal #3 against Rittch and goal #4 against Smith).

Not sure what you can take away from that game except never count the Flames out. I wasn't very high on the Bill Peters hire, but he has this team playing some fast, uptempo, disciplined and fun hockey.

Giordano is now only 8 points back of McDavid in the scoring race

So last Sunday, the Ducks are down 5-1 to Washington midway through the game, scores 5 unanswered goals to win 6-5.

Flames tonight: "Hold my beer."
Scores 8 goals although not unanswered after being down 4-1 to win 9-6.

I went to bed when it was 4-1, it was 1.15am and I figured well maybe we can make a game of it but I'm not going to lose sleep over the possibility, literally.

Woke up, didn't check phone, started the game and watched from the point I left off, wow, what an absolutely nutty game, so much fun.

As for those of you attacking the goalies, for those of us who grew up in the 80s high scoring games, you can let in a lot of goals and it still not be your fault, that was just an old fashioned shoot em up. Enjoy it for what it was, glorious fun.

Just finished watching and even though I knew the scoreline it was still a fun game to watch! Not just a tonne of goals, but lots of great goals in the game.

I'm sure it's been said before, but Cam Atkinson has to be one of the most underrated players in the NHL

^ I don't know if there is a market where a player could be more invisible than Columbus. But you're right. Atkinson is a beast.

Can we all agree that people need to stop ruining ATL. It has become a great tradition of us winning.

If your post starts with I don't want to spoil ATL but. Go ahead and delete it.

That powerplay is looking better than it has in a very long time. I can’t remember the last time that you could actually feel the certainty that the flames were going to capitalize on that penalty when they got the powerplay that Tkachuk scored on. It felt so certain that the flames were going to score.

The flames were just moving it so quickly and confidently while the blue jackets seemed to shrink into a smaller and smaller box as the flames moved the puck faster and faster. It was awesome.

What are people's thoughts on Mangiapane's game last night? I liked his compete level, but he was manhandled on just about every shift and missed a few passes that I think most players would have picked up. I'm thinking he probably just needs a few more games to get settled in, but I wonder where he stands when Frolik returns?

He thinks the game very fast (if that makes sense) and skates past the puck a lot and needs to work on his edges.

But man, the upside is apparent. I want to see more with him and Neal/Jankowski

I think you have to give Atkinson a lot of credit on the fourth goal, that was a high skilled play and not on Smith at all IMO. He waited and waited and to be honest so did Smith but he lost the game of chicken and Atkinson put that shot between the ear hole and the post.

Sometimes its a world class play and not on the goalie.

I really liked his game, played a hard game and showed skill as well. Good speed all over the ice. He was playing like he wants to stay in the NHL. He did go down a fair bit because of his size, but it was also because he was in the corners and battling.

He created things when he was out there.

Both goalies had one bad goal, 3rd for Rittich and 4th for Smith, but it’s kind of hard to blame them for the others.

1st is a mega screen where Rittich just thought he had it until he realized he didn’t.

2nd perfect screen off the post and in. Low blocker, hard to stop.

3rd is a shot that Rittich was late on. Should have had it

4th Smith goes down early and leaves a huge hole over his shoulder as he’s deep in his net.

5th perfect shot over the shoulder on a breakaway

6th tip on a point shot just in front of the goal.

Two good teams going to blows. This one I don’t really blame on the goaltenders at all.

I’ve seen Johnny and Kane score those where it whizzes by the goalie’s ear, and that wasn’t one.

I didn’t think Bobrovsky was that bad on the whole either. Flames offense was vicious.

Yay!
I beg to differ on the following:

First Rittich goal: The mistake isn't the big rebound so much as Rittich having no clue that he didn't have the puck. In that it was like a couple that have snuck through Smith, like that killer against Montreal. Smith makes the latter save if he realizes the puck has trickled through and reacts. Rittich makes a save (or has a shot at one anyway) if he realizes the rebound has gone all the way out to the point.

Second Rittich Goal: I think it was a decent goal, but man, if Smith lets one in from there it's a different story.

First Smith Goal: Just outdueled by a really good player and beaten by a good shot that went in under the bar. It's a 50-50 play where Smith went with the odds of where shots usually go. Bob was beaten by a similar shot but everyone just praised the shooter on that one.

The goals Bob let in were probably worse than any except the third Rittich goal. 5 holes - have a look at what's said about Smith when that happens. Pretty open shots from the slot like Lindholm).

no you don't. that Red Light <goalie name that starts with R> joke is like 30 years old, goes back to the days of Andre Racicot from the late 80's/early 90's. and even if it was new and clever, it is always overruled by default with the formula E=NG.

I agree, have some patience, it is worth the wait!! I also want to jump to those other boards to check things out. While you are waiting listen to the radio, or if the Oilers are playing watch them lose, or if they already lost listen to CHED. There are a lot of other things to do than sitting there and waiting for Gaskal.

Stop spoiling the ATL.

I would also like to point out that Gio passed two players on the all time points as a defence men list Brad McCrimmon (403) and Mike McEwen (404). Giordano (405)is 104th all time with . One spot a head of him is Niklas Kronwall with 409 pts.

To enter the top 100 he needs 418 points. Maybe one or two more since Kronwall is still playing.
