Nope. You hang up the phone on that one. One roster player. You need depth to win the league.
Bennett could be sold to the Sabres as a long term replacement for RoR. Similar style of player. Probably fits better with their window of opportunity as well. I’d be inclined, indeed to stick with Jankowski as well. Has great size and skill, and can play on the defensive side of the puck as well.

Is sutter and feaster doing our drafts?
Again they want a top prospect. They will want valamaki, 1st ,2nd and Calgary paying $7.5 million bonus. I would bet our prospect pool would be worst in league in 2 years.

You are right. Treliving is a drafting guru.. he drafted such a superstar in Bennett

The Flames need to build a winning culture before they can start to worry about maintaining a winning culture.
We got younger with the Hanifin/Lindholm acquisitions, and "finding" two pieces in Ryan and Czarnik - we could be set roster wise for a while now.
|
Nothing says winning culture like ROR.

Almost every gm in the league would have taken bennett with the 4th pick. He was a safe pick at the time but he has not developed as well as we would have liked

Some would have taken him higher.

Normally I'd be reticent to trade another 1st but for ROR you do it.
I don't know if I'd be comfortable throwing Valimaki on top of that but something like Bennett, 1st, and Andersson might get the Sabres' attention and I'd be ok with that. Buy out Brouwer to make cap room and we'd be looking good.

Fair enough. I do think Janko makes a ton of sense in a RoR swap. Young, cheap, skilled, big centre and if the Flames landed RoR they could easily part with Janko up the middle with Monahan, Backlund, Ryan, Lindholm, Bennett (i personally would prefer to keep Bennett as well)
Flames would need move salary but perhaps Janko, Gillies, Kylington?
The addition of Hanifin makes Kylington somewhat expendable. He is worth at least a 2nd, Jankowski is likely worth a 1st and Gillies is a decent prospect that could back up Hutton next year?

The fact there’s people in here acting like they knew Bennett would struggle and Treliving blew it is hilarious.

No one knows that for sure. Or are we supposed to just rely on Bob Mckenzie's list? Why even hire scouts.
The one constant all of these years has been Button. Until he is gone, I don't have much faith in the Flames drafting.
Especially when we get a player back that will autimatically make the Flames a contender next season.

Bad take. Bennett was by far a consensus top 4 pick in that draft that was deemed 4 players deep at the top

Wasn't Burke GM when we drafted Bennett? Granted Tre would have also taken him

I did not claim that I knew he was going to be a bust I, as a fan, was ecstatic when he was drafted. However, I also dont get paid millions of dollars to make these decisions.

You mean the guy who has been able to find talent late in the draft consistently? Gaudreau, magiapane, dube, parsons, brodie, fox, ferland etc. I fully believe picks like kanzig and smith were based on some burke mandate to find size. I think button has done well

Personally I think scouts make their money with the later round picks and they’ve hit some home runs: Gaudreau and Brodie for example.

Could definitely see Jankowski as a fit for Buffalo.
If you have RoR, there are a lot of centres. Hmmmm.

Wow unreal... didn’t know a car accident happened to an alum of the Humboldt Broncos and his family ... that’s just too much
Thoughts and prayers to Troy and his family and the Humboldt Broncos family.

Still have a feeling Jets are gonna get O'Reilly after Sabres payout the bonus money now that they lost out on Stastny. They can offer a way better package than the Flames could and still keep their current roster.
