Yeah that was ridiculous. I don't know who that guy is that was saying "the Flames should go after Draisaitl WHY NOT!?!?", but someone on that panel must have known this is impossible.
I read somewhere that it's not impossible if we offer a dollar amount high enough that the compensation is 4 first round draft picks. According to the CBA, the first of the four picks would just start in 2019 if we don't have our 2018 pick.

Clubs owing three (3) draft selections in different rounds must have them available in the next draft.
Clubs owing two (2) draft selections in the same round, must have them available in the next three (3) drafts.
Clubs owing three (3) draft selections in the same round must have them available in the next four (4) drafts, and so on.

Its a move that he has to do, the Oilers prospect depth is disastrous outside of JP, and I wouldn't call his year in the AHL a sure sign of confidence in his ability to play in the NHL. However saying that Chia pretty much indicated that no matter what, he's going to the NHL, they'll probably put him on the top line and McDavid will drag him to a 9 million dollar contract in a coupla years.
