No doubt - guy had one of the best offensive seasons for an 18 year NCAA defenseman ever.
The only d-men with numbers even comparable in the last 10 years in their U-19 seasons are: Werenski (2nd year), Justin Faulk (Year 1), Jack Johnson (Year 1&2), & Trouba (Year 1).
Hell he had a better PPG than Gaudreau had in his rookie season in the NCAA.
Would be a huge mistake to trade somebody with that potential away.

I'm stunned by people even considering giving up the kind of packages being offered for Hamonic, no doubt a solid dman but this is nuts! 2 firsts? 1 first is a failure if you ask me. Snow is not dealing from a position of strength. Hell let some other team give him a crazy ransom for a#4 dman. Has to be cheaper options.

I remember asking about him when he was on Tampa and a lot of people said there was no way he'd move and he did, any chance it happens again?

Not sure about the likelihood of Gudas being traded, but I would be pumped if he came here-he would be fun to watch playing against teams like the oilers and Ducks. We could use his nastiness, especially after losing Engelland.

Huh, I didn't realize Adam Fox was that good in his first year. Ok, I retract my proposal of a 1st plus Fox. Maybe a 1st and Kylington instead? We have a glut of d prospects, so was just thinking of using one as trade bait.

I think people are overlooking the fact Hamonic is 26, and he's signed to a very appealing contract. Players like that aren't available very often, and they cost real assets to acquire.
I understand the approach of saving the assets and just signing Stone. It's the more prudent move. But if Treliving is serious about building a powerhouse d corps, it means setting his sights higher than Stone. And it's going to cost.
Personally, I think Fox is a good prospect, but not a blue-chipper. How many defencemen his size who are mediocre skaters make an impact in the NHL? His stats are padded from playing in a terrible conference. Then there's the college factor. The guy is going to Harvard, so pretty safe to assume he sticks out the full four years. If he's a Hobey Baker nominee, lots of teams will be waving money under his nose.

Yes Fox is an offensive Dman but a very good one, he has insane vision and hockey sense and his 40 points from the backend was 25 points better than the next D in scoring, 8 of his points were also shorthanded so it seems his coach trusts him in all situations.
"The impact that he has had as a freshman here has been unbelievable," Harvard coach Ted Donato told NCAA.com last month. "Offensively, he is so dynamic, and his hockey IQ and puck skills are really amongst the best that there is in college hockey. He makes big plays in big games and makes the players around him that much better. We actually tell the guys not to watch him because he plays with such feel that he makes it look easy out there. He's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers."

I would trade both Kylington and Andersen together before Fox

I always amazes me how people are not thrilled about moving unproven assets and lottery tickets to improve the team and then complain when a rival lands a player we could use. Building a team is done through many channels and the assets you use are dependent on your current situation and path that you are on.

Spitball: 2017 1st and a 2018 conditional? Flames make the conference final and its a 1st, otherwise a 2nd and a 4th?

Hamonic has 7 Ice Time, which is pretty good. Demers only has 5 Ice Time, which is a regular number of Ice Time for an average D.
It's worth mentioning that Demers' bars slant upwards and to the right, which is typically a big hit with the ladies, while Hamonic's bars are just weird and out of control (although some ladies dig that too).
I dunno. I think it's a toss-up.

Hamonic also has a stubby orange. Not popular with the ladies.

Hamonic didn't have a good season last year, I would be O.K but not thrilled with trading a first but 2? No no no. How about let's keep the Dman who put up the best freshman point totals since Brian Leetch

If we're going to give up a 1st+Fox or two firsts, or more likely the ask being a promising roster player like Bennett (remember, career 60+ point scorer Jordan Eberle didn't get Travis Hamonic, and the Oilers pushed hard for that) I would expect someone with potential to blow the damn roof off, like Justin Faulk or Jacob Trouba.
Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Faulk
Now that.. THAT would be a heck of a top four.

Exactly, way rather spend assets to get a player like Faulk. I get Hamonic is on a good contract but if you are gonna give up big assets like that you want a dynamic player, not a player you may already have in Michael Stone...
