Lol... the OP talks about the timeline from 03-04... Compared to the 90's, the last 15 years have been a great ride excluding the lockouts.
If you made it through the 90's era and are still a Flames fan, then you're a lifer.
If you're thinking the last 15 years has been enough to make you a fair weather fan, you may as well grab your ball and go home.
Most teams in all sports hover in mediocrity. It's imagining the possibilities and potentially see them come to life is what it's all about. But prepare to be disappointed. That's sports.

Or, as recently described by Thomas Metzinger, life is "widespread preference frustration".

I'm pumped! The arena stuff is a bunch of pathetic BS so I'm staying out of that crap.
Go Flames players Go!

Honestly, the only thing that takes away from my enjoyment of hockey is other fans who constantly talk about how crappy things are.

Born and raised here in Calgary, and I will always be a Flames fan for life, but I find myself coming into this season without the excitement I have in the past.
Maybe it's the d**k measuring contest between the owners and the city right now, but I find I really don't care that the season starts in a week. Or maybe, being a life long Flames fan, we know not to get excited because the Flames really don't start their season till 15 games into it hahaha

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited. But very cautiously optimistic.
I still think we need an upgrade at forward. Or huge improvements from at least a couple players.
Edmonton had 20 more goals for, and many of the contending teams had even more than that.
So the Flames need to eliminate that gap somehow to take the next step I think. Will a Gaudreau bounce back year, progression with Tkachuk, Bennett and the addition of Jankowski add the needed 20-30 goals? Not sure.
This is why Treliving shouldn't just be content with the current RW depth and production.

If you are turning fair weather fan then go cheer for the poster boy up north!

Treliving on down = Happy to support. Burke and up = No thanks.

Did I miss something in the Arena discussion regarding Burke? Curious why you include him in the "and up" group.

I'll continue following the Flames, but the Trump dumpster fire is giving me a run for my money.

I'm guessing most of the people who are feeling the same as you aren't posting much anymore.
I'm definitely at an all time low for hockey interest since about 1984 when I first started watching. I haven't watched a minute of preseason yet, and haven't felt like I'm missing anything. It's my first year in a long time without season tickets, and I haven't regretted that at all yet. But I've also still been following a lot of the threads on CP. We'll see what happens when the regular season starts, but I doubt I'll be going out of my way to watch like I used to.

That's pretty much where I'm at. Excited about the on-ice product. Trying hard to separate that from the ownership and upper management, who I've come to strongly dislike.

Been a Flames can since 1980 and will remain one until they cease to be. The astroturfing in the arena thread gets me down, but I watch some YouTube vids of our players to pick me up. Go Flames Go!!!

Haven't missed a single Flames game in 10+ years and I don't plan on missing a single Flames game for the next 50+ years. They are and will forever be one of my only true loves

Flames beat the Oilers on Wednesday and Flames fans will be as pumped as ever...especially with all their smack talk
This isn't my first rodeo though, Flames will probably play terrible and allow 5+ goals

I know alot of people who have been turned off of the game due to how different it is now- the game is so fast these days, but it's lost a certain....soul, I guess. It's not as tough, and not nearly as physical as it used to be, and the rivalries and animosity aren't quite there anymore. I still appreciate it, and I love the team, but as an older guy-the product on average isn't as exciting as it used to be.

The game absolutely lacks “personality”. I wish we’d see it come back. Where’s Roenick? Theo? Connie?
Dougie Hamilton may have the biggest personality in the entire NHL.
