There have been rumours that PK is not beloved or even beliked by Habs brass and teammates.
http://montrealgazette.com/sports/ho...and-p-k-subban
I think he is a good person that cares, but his extreme extroversion can rub some people the wrong way.

That paints a bad picture of Bergevin that he accepted a worse deal because of... reasons?

Bergevin wont be around when the later years of the Weber's contract come to haunt the team.
Im surprised Bergevin is still there. Surprised that Therien is still there even more so. Ownership is becoming a joke.

well THAT I can understand, that makes sense ... turning around and settling for only Weber does not.
it's incredible, there's only 30 GM jobs in the NHL ... you think those guys have to be extremely good. But then you see the Bennings, the Sweeneys, the Bergevins, the Chiarellis and you just have to shake your head.

Bergevin likely asked for a ton from thenOilers because he didn't want to send Subbam to a Canadian market that has the top young player in the game. Potential to blow up even more in his face. Weber for Subban is just horrible though.
Weber is declining and at 31 his contract is unmovable. Somehow Poile turns it into a 27 year old superstar that plays the same position.

If you remove the emotional reactions going on right now, I guess it comes down to how much better you think Weber is now. Hockey Canada thinks he is better. I would guess the majority of general managers think Weber is better right now.
For how long? I dunno
Believe it or not, the Habs think they have a 2-3 year window to win the Cup (when Pacioretti sweet contract runs out - Price does in two years). Weber is supposed to help them do that.

Weber has 10 years left on his deal though. I get that he can help now but what about in 4-5 years when that contract is a complete boat anchor.
Habs fans already hoping for a lockout in 7 years with a chance for more compliance buyouts

I'm sure it's been mentioned but Nash is on the hook for about $25mil in recapture penalties if Weber retires early which he probably will.

If they were both signed to the same term, I could see this from Montreal's side a bit more if they were a true contender. But 10 more years for Weber? With potential recapture penalties? On a bubble team? Ridiculous.
EDIT: brain fart, Nashville suffers the cap penalties. That does make it more even. Still a riskier proposition for Montreal given the age of the players. Subban is just entering his prime, Weber is in the middle of his.

Exactly - it'll be Nashville on the hook for recapture penalties, not Montreal.
Another reason why this trade isn't as one-sided as dome people seem to think.

That's the thing though - management believes they are a real contender. That Price, Weber, Pacioretti and whoever make them a legitimate one.

Five years from now, the Habs don't care. His actual salary is virtually nothing at that point, so he'd be tradable to a team with a lot of cap space, or he could retire and cost the Habs nothing in recapture penalties.
If he retires five or more years from now, it's only the Preds who have to worry about the recapture penalties. If he retires within the next four years, the Habs penalty would be small and spread out over a long term. Also, if he retires within four seasons, it will likely be due to a major injury and they can put him on LTIR.

Adding Weber and Shaw makes them much, much tougher to play against.
And better defensively.

Well those future costs are sunk though. They come with or without Weber at this point.

Does Nashville even care about recapture penatlies? They're a budget team.

But people are talking like it'll be a burden to Montreal. It won't
Also, Nashville loses control of the situation now, their fate is in Montreal's hands to deal with it.

That's oversimplifying things a bit:
