In fairness,

Stone is arguably a top 5 all-around RW in the NHL.
Ryan is a 56 point "2nd line" RW
Other right-shot top 9 forwards on their roster include Zibanejad, Pageau, and Lazar.

So even if Chiasson is an "Ottawa cast-off" we don't know what that really means, either 5v5 or power-play. Chiasson strikes me as a pure top-6-or-bust type player stuck on a team the best 1-2 punch at his position.

I'm not saying Chiasson is good, only that being an Ottawa cast-off should not be an indictment.

That's the nice thing about sport, things like that do actually happen. But for any fans to have their hopes up for him to be anything more than effective regular bottom six forward simply isn't fair expectations on the player, or the team that brought him in. Until he proves otherwise, he's nothing more than a depth signing with some potential upside and the ability to create some internal competition.
I don't think anyone is expecting Chiasson to be a 1st/2nd liner so nobody has that unfair expectation. To say something would be best case scenario is saying chances are it won't happen but that's the best possible outcome.

Given Treliving's comments about having forward "pairs" (Gaudreau-Monahan, Bennett-Brouwer, Backlund-Frolik, Stajan-Bouma), it seems to me that Chiasson will have a very good opportunity to slot into the top line. If those pairs hold up, there wouldn't be too many other options...maybe Pribyl if he wows everyone.

By the way, i just realized that "Bennett Brauer" is the name of the Chris Farley motivational speaker character from SNL....
I think we have no choice but to slot those 2 together now.....
We'll be scoring goals down by river all season....

If Andrew Shaw can pull first line duty there's no reason to count out Chiasson.

That's the nice thing about the "pairs" system. You put together solid pairs and you can pretty much then slot in any other player, generally regardless of skill level, alongside that pair. All you need is the proper chemistry. Let's hope they find it.

it's all about chemistry, whoever finds the best chemistry with those pairs will win the open spot. It'd be great if Chiasson worked well on the first line but as long as he finds some chemistry with someone, I think he'll be useful even if it's just as a big body.

Going to be interesting how negative or positive the hiring of Cameron will be to Chiasson.

Hahaha good ole Farley. Close but not quite....he was the Chris Farley character on weekend update who would hold his fingers up doing the quotation marks when he would say things like "I smell bad" "I have no personal hygiene"

Matt Foley was the motivational speaker who lived in a van down by the river

With his defensive abilities a 3rd line of Frolik - Backlund - Chaisson could be interesting. Would be a hell of a shut down line that can score.

Sieloff not making friends in Ottawa. apparently threw a big hit on Clarke MacArthur who is recovering from a season ripe with ijury. MacArthur had to be helped off the ice.

Guess it is a tough situation for Sieloff... trying to make an impression for a new organization by doing what he is best known for.

I hope MacArthur is okay, but I doubt there was any malice in it from Sieloff, just trying to make an impression as you said.

Seiloff must want to crawl into a hole after this ordeal.

Just to add some more context here (found on reddit):
Quote:
(@TomSens) Wow. Bobby Ryan just beat the #### out of Patrick Seiloff for hitting MacArthur from behind. Ryan grabbed Sieloff and beat him up. Screamed “YOU ####ING IDIOT” after they got broken up.

(@PammerHockey) Neil and Brassard now go after Sieloff. Shean Donovan asked Sieloff to leave the bench. Tensions are running high. #Sens

Wow, that is rough. I wonder if any video will surface of this hit and the fighting afterwards.

Sieloff is in a no-win situation in that scenario. But I can completely understand both his intention as well as the reaction from his teammates.
