How did Northern Ireland vote on this?

Personally, I find the racism angle unfortunate. There are 101 legitimate non-racist reasons to not be in the EU. And being conservative when it comes to immigration doesn't make someone racist.

Gibraltor is one spot that could push to join Spain. They voted 95.9% to remain. Be pretty hard to stay in the UK after that.

It will be interesting to see how this will impact all the expat brits who live in Spain and the other hotspots of Europe.

Best possible outcome for all involved. Britain has the potential to become the shining star of European tourism and business. In the big picture, their interests are fundamentally at odds with Germany and Britain has never gotten a fair shake from the Europeans. The European FTA will remain intact and England should now have the ability to negotiate favorable trading agreements on its own terms. Canada will make a great trading partner. This is short term pain for long term gain, for everyone including the Germans.

Rightly or wrongly, people don't think government is on their side. It's not even a partisan thing, you'll often hear people say "Washington is broken"

Everything from immigration, to outsourcing jobs to gun control, congress can't pass anything. The politicians are controlled by lobbyists, not by the people.

If you're an American (regardless of color) whose job got outsourced and have been unemployed for 2 years, how is government working for you?

Once all the legal proceedings are complete, does this mean that EU nationals are going to require a work visa to work in the UK?

One reason is to take on a more politically neutral position on the world stage.

But being able to control things like your economy, security, business, foreign policy, justice, health, standard of living, education, etc..., without outside influence from countries with different motives are all big reasons.

I know as a Canadian, I wouldn't want the U.S. pushing their agenda on us and more than they do already. The interests of Bulgaria and Romania aren't the same as the UK's, so why should they compromise?

I believe so, also I watched an interview with a Canadian Ex-pat working in the UK, and it sounds like the conditions of her working Visa are going to be changed.

Sooooo when does the EU's beach assault on the UK start, I mean Germany hasn't had a good war in about 70 years?

Some very disgusting posts in this thread. I assume none of you know anything about this other then what John Oliver told you?

The majority of the UK is NOT in fact racist. This is supposed to help them financially in the long term. They will have more independence with their economy and won't have to fork over millions of pounds just to be part of the EU. Money is always the biggest deciding factor and this was no different.

Oh and if it does turn out to royally suck for the UK, they can always go back...

The amount of ignorance in this thread is astounding.

Yeah, we'll see how that goes for them. Find me some data that doesn't just ignore the economic gains from the EU because the economics have never been in favour of a Brexit.

Everything is fixed now in the UK!

And yet everyone who loves to blab about "Washington is broken" doesn't actually really think that at all considering Congress has had, pretty much forever, a 90% incumbent winner rate. People hate other people's congresspeople, but view their own as being fine. Even this election cycle, the alleged cycle of being "anti-establishment", I think I saw there were 209 primaries held so far, and in 205 of them the incumbent candidate won.

People just are easy to prey on emotionally. That's been the GOP calling card for years, and it was the calling card of the Leave side. People are willing to go against their own interest if you can create a sense of fear in them about irrelevant, emotionally based issues. That and the stupidest ####ing trend in recent history, politics by meme'ing. That's scarily and sadly how many get their "facts".

And prior to this anyone living in say Spain or Italy could just sell their house and move to England to live or work?

Could you just pack up and move to England and not work?

I could see how that can fuel a movement like this.

I agree people say that. But its just empty words. Its just people lashing out and most of the lashing out comes from people with incompatible goals like - fix inequality but don't raise taxes or interfere with our lives.

Unemployment is the US basically at the same point it was pre-2008 crash so the jobs thing is pretty much out the window.
