Rogers is a plague on all Canadian sports fans. It's unfortunate we'll never be rid of these dbags in the Canadian sports market.

I'm honestly surprised it took this long with these multi city media companies. I was just thinking yesterday how surprising it was that we still had local radio personalities when they could just have a morning crew in each city and do the rest nationally.

"He's Danish! That something you get at a continental breakfast!"
Should have been fired immediately after that broadcast.

I wonder what the Flames think of this? I know King is loyal to the 960 guys but they have to know that TSN would have done a much better job of showcasing their team. Shame they signed such a long deal as we are stuck with this Rogers dog and pony show until 2020.

Believe me that's coming.
This Virgin radio brand of Bell's is a great example of that. Rogers has done the same thing with Kiss. Rogers already does a bunch of out of market hosting. At the same time, these companies are hesitant to can all local programming because it's their only competitive advantage. Local, timely information. It's the one thing sirius/streaming don't do better.
Scary days in the broadcasting/print business.

MacLean and Amber are the new hosts. Bring back Strombo. I got tired of Ron MacLean years ago and David Amber is a worse reporter than Gene Principe.
Definitely will be switching channels the minute the horn sounds each period now.

Not going to happen. Unless Rogers found itself in serious trouble, there's no way they would essentially capitulate to Bell like that. Not on the national contract.
I would love to see them sell a certain regional contract, but that is likewise probably a pipe dream.

NHL Gamecentre was the real eye opener for me.
Being able to watch the 'away' broadcast for the opposition instead of whatever garbage Sportsnet was trying to show me at the time has caused me to basically abandon Canadian telecasts.
When you've got the option of NESN or NBC or MSG or Fox Sports central, the production value just doesn't compare.
I'm someone who mutes anything that isn't the hockey, I will occasionally listen to an intermission segment if something momentous happened during the game and I want an update, so it's not about the panel personnel for me, it's the actual game presentation that is often far worse.
You'll never be able to convince me to go back to Sportsnet and it wouldn't surprise me if I'm not alone in this. If you give me a flames telecast and rick ball isn't doing commentary, I'm going to watch the other feed.
It's made all-canadian showdowns somewhat deflating knowing I'll only get the one feed to choose from.

Agreed. I'm a Bruins fan so i'm a little biased, but I love the NESN broadcasts. Always have. They have an old time feel to them but doesnt have that Classic Sportsnet feel to it. Some broadcasts are just terrible though. I think its Floridas that is just boring to listen too. Definitely a B grade production there.

Denis Potvin might simultaneously be my favourite hockey player of all time and my least favourite commentator of all time.

Depends on the team, but yes, Calgary's local broadcast quality is definitely on the lower tier (excluding announcers, who are great on the Flames broadcast)

David Amber is terrible. That late/western host seat would have been a nice fit for Hextall.

Weird. "Financial" must be TV-speak for "ineptitude."

What a sad change. I remember when I used to laugh at American hockey broadcasts for their low-grade quality. And that was compared to the local 2&7 broadcasts.

The sad thing is that is one of the most clever things he ever said, as stupid as it was.
