Left wingers? Damn, maybe we trade down. We got Dougie Hamilton last year somehow, another Dougie would be awsome. Atleast we got him, he's going to be an elite dman soon.

Had an idea!

Last time we had #6 pick the result was pretty great for us so I'm confident.

If MacTavish was still GM I'd bet on EDM taking a Dman at #4.
Chiarelli is likely smart enough to know he can trade down from #4, get an additional pick/asset, and still draft a decent Dman.

I'll go off the board and say Julien Gauthier for #6, kid is a physical beast, 6'4 230lbs, really good skater with great skill and a lethal shot. Had he not been injured by a cheap shot he may have been ranked in the top 3-5.
Oh, he's also a right wing that shoots right.

Some topics are absolute non-starters. Advocating tanking a season before it's even begun is probably top of the list. You should have realized that.

Treliving did mention that expansion may create opportunities for the Flames to acquire a decent tender.

I think Gauthier gets picked in the late teens or early 20s due to concerns over his hockey sense. Considering where the Flames have been focusing in recent years, I would put the chances at approximately 0% that they use #6 on Gauthier.

If the scouts see a gem in the 8-14 range, I can see them trading down from #6.

Nah. No sense dicking around. BT says that they have a ledge at 6, so unless that's early posturing, I think they keep the pick.

Put me in the camp that says it's almost best case scenario outside of drafting top 3.
We only get bumped down 1 while the the Oil stain and Caknuckleheads drop out of the top 3.
Sucks to be out of the top 3. But I'll take it. We'll get a really good player.

Would be nice, but I don't see the Oilers dropping in the draft for one year of Wideman, who would be out of there the second free agency kicks in (if he even agreed to go in the first place)

Also, Monahan would arguably have been a top-3 pick in a year with a less-deep prospect pool (and is currently definitely a top-3 performer from his draft class).

Oh ok. How does finding a top 10 NHL point getter in his 2nd season in the 4th round factor into your logic?
I'm disappointed we didn't move up too, but let's not get silly.

I would have no problem taking one of the defensemen at number 6. Top-pair D are really hard to find and I'm also a huge fan of making your strengths stronger.
We've got really solid young D in our system and adding a Chychrun or Juolevi to that mix would be perfectly fine with me. The flames have no problems scoring goals, but we had the worst D in the league.
Yes, goaltending, however even I can't blame the whole thing on the goalies (god I hate Hiller). I think it would be pretty awesome to be heading into the 2018-19 season with
Brodie-Hamilton
Anderson/Kylington-Juolevi/Chychrun
As our top-four on defense. I remember a quote about one of the years the Devils won the cup, the opposition coach saying something like "every time I looked up Niedermayer or Rafalski was skating the puck out of their zone."
Glad VAN and EDM aren't picking top-3, but I'm not really worried or upset about being 6th.

What makes you think we can't use another high end LW?
