I was down in Cabo for the week and the sports bar on the resort showed every playoff game. I was blown away by NBC's coverage compared to Sportsnet. Not sure if it was that good, or i'm just so used to watching the thrash Sportsnet throws out there that I don't remember what it is to have good hockey tv coverage.

True, but specifically this:

On the Edmonton Oilers’ 2015-16 playoff hopes:
“Fantastic. I think for sure playoffs. I tell you who’s going to be lights-out this year is Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall.
“They went over to the World Championship and played with Crosby, which is similar to Messier and Gretzky. Not that they needed any encouragement but those two Oilers flanked Mario Lemieux at the crucial moment of the Canada Cup in ’87. Now you have two Oilers flanking Sid to a gold. You watch Eberle take off. He’s already been great in international hockey, but I think this is going to be his year, Taylor Hall’s year.
“And Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse will fit in. Gimme a glass of wine or a beer, and I think in two years they win the Cup. That may be a little eager, but I don’t think more than four.

I believe that after Rogers took over HNIC, Petrillo went to work for the NHL Network. I've also seen her still doing non-hockey stuff on CBC. I don't think she ever did any work for Rogers after they took over the tv contract.
Earlier this year, she took over as the host of Leafs Lunch on TSN Radio in Toronto.

As long as it doesn't lead to him taking off his shirt and play air guitar to the RSN intro to HNIC.

I'm in the same generation as Stromboli (<--I'm leaving this autocorrect) and I don't mind him. He is just there to set things up and keep things moving which he does a fine job of. My impression is he's trying to the "hey, you guys are the experts here, but this regular hockey loving fan here thinks ____...is that accurate?" approach and for some reason it works for me.
Kypreos is way better now than previous years. I'm not sure what they did to him but maybe they sat him down and said "we don't want another blowhard, we have Cherry." They seem to have spayed/neutered him and made him less annoying...they are also keeping him away from "GM of the century" Doug M which helps keep him from going nutty. The banter between him, Hrudey, and Friedman works. It's not The Hotstove Lounge but it's not meant to be. It would be great if they could bring that back though but it seems those true hockey beat writers are going by the wayside.
I suspect RSN gets a ton of grief during the playoffs because of the local feeds they tapped into. Some of those broadcast feeds were ridiculously poor play by play and colour (plus the extra glass ads). The guys were calling it for a local audience not a national broadcast and would therefore only see it for one team or missed the play entirely. That maybe works if you're broadcasting for Islanders TV on Comcast but not if you're across Canada and on the NHLNetwork or whatever. My memory is muddy but I don't recall CBC doing that...perhaps because they weren't able to show every series and therefore you just got a few minutes of Mutt and Jeff in St. Louis for the last 4 minutes of that game after the Pittsburgh game ended and the L.A. game hadn't started yet. Having 2-3 channels show every game means we get exposed to the bad along with the good of being able to watch whatever game we want.
There is something different about the RSN broadcast from the TSN broadcast though. It's not the same crispness to it...I dunno. I'm still surprised TSN has kept basically their entire hockey crew and RSN hasn't managed to poach them away. Sprinkle in some Duthie, Cuthbert, some of their hockey experts and the broadcast could be great. The NBC weekend games with Doc, Keith Jones, and McGuire are damn good. Somehow bottle that chemistry and RSN would have a hope. We're also Canadian and are never happy unless we can complain.

I didn't follow that closely but I'm sure others can confirm, did she ever do any CBC work after SN took over? I don't recall seeing her on HNIC at all this season, then again I don't watch much intermission stuff.

I think she was done once SN took over.

Andi Petrillo hosts CBC Sports Weekend with Scott Russell and will probably be a big part of the 2016 Olympic Coverage.

Speaking of Healy, can someone please tell him that Ovechkin's nickname is Ovie and not O.V.

Just a quick little bump. Despite little attached emotion due to no Canadian teams in the playoffs and RSN's 3rd rate presentation (Really why go to another game in the intermission when it's already on another RSN channel? Nice of RSN to buy themselves the rights to broadcast the NHL only to give Canadians straight Fox and NBC American feeds for half of the playoff series) the first two rounds of the 2016 NHL playoffs have for the most part been fantastic. The Canadians that have tuned out the NHL this spring have missed out on one of the best overall playoffs we have seen in some time as if you take out any series the Lightning and Islanders were involved in and the quality of hockey has been first rate.

Never heard Healy do this, but the caps colour guy does it constantly.

agreed. The hockey has been awesome.
It's also nice to be able to watch with far less emotional investment and just watch the game. I'm usually cheering against the other canadian teams to truly & objectively enjoy the play on the ice itself

Let them. They're having enough problems filling the games they already have with anything resembling quality PBP. Imagine if they were doing every series?
