Because Gillies is still far from a sure thing. Goalies are an absolute crapshoot to predict eventual outcome. All you can do really is continue to draft goalies here and there and hope to god one of them pans out.

It's also extremely rare to acquire top tier goalies, so you're often left with relatively unproven back-ups as your next option and often those don't work out either. See Scrivens, Bernier, Fasth, Talbot (maybe it's more an Edmonton thing haha)

Bernier is an interesting case. He was considered the "future" prospect for the Kings while Quick was the "stopgap".

Now Quick is their franchise goalie and they effectively flipped Bernier into Marian Gaborik.

That could very well be Joni Ortio and Jon Gillies of the future for all we know. You could find your #1 anywhere, it might never come from our system. We might sign Talbot this offseason and get ourselves a Vezina candidate. I think he's really good, despite the Oilers effect on his stats.

Bruins announce they will loan Pastrnak to the Czechs for the WJC after the roster freeze is lifted on Dec. 28.

How would it look on Arnold and Gaudreau if they talked smack about Demko? That would be throwing their teammate under the bus.

Think about the goalies for TC over the past 15 yrs - I believe only three of them (fluery, louongo and price) have become regular starters.

Not going to roast this kid because of one game. It is a long tournament, and they did not get off to a great start, it is not the end of the world.....
