Observation: Morgan Klimchuk is lethal with the puck. Every shot, every chance, it's in the net. Every time.

Can anyone comment on Klimchuk's skating?

Johnny meet Morgan, Morgan meet Johnny.

I have high hopes for Klimchuk.

Over the last two days we have heard.
  • He is lethal at finishing chances
  • Is able to handle every pass
  • Is good at getting to/generating rebounds
  • Plays a strong 200ft North/South game
He feels like the perfect guy that you want to pair with talented players.

Kind of shows in his international play too. Second on the team in points to only Sam Reinhart in points when they played together at the U-17s. Second on the team in points when he played with McDavid/Bennett at the U-18s.

To confirm, the scrimmage tomorrow morning is open to the public, right?
This year will be my first time checking out development camp!

He's always been touted as that kind of player. Ferraro on his draft day said he had a bit of Steve Larmer in him, that's a massive compliment. Not a flashy player but knows how to get the job done consistently.

If Klimchuk can put together a full healthy season the sky is the limit for him. Only thing holding him back IMO is his Backlund esque level of injury problems.

The way people describe him makes me think of Marian Hossa.

I'd have to agree they sound like a great fit together. Only issue is I believe Klimchuk and Gaudreau can both only play LW. I seem to recall something about Klimchuk spending some time on the RW last season, but I can't say for sure.

Regardless, it would be amazing if Klimchuk could become our #2 LW. He's great defensively and it sounds like his offensive abilities are starting to catch up with his high hockey IQ. Might be one of those versatile players who can play multiple roles and develop chemistry up and down the lineup.

Obviously we're all super-pumped for these kids. There appears to be just so much more talent at this camp than just a couple years ago.

Do we flat out expect Stockton to go on a tear in 2015 / 2016? Heck, in theory Granlund, Ferland and Poirier could all be sent to the farm to join Arnold, Gillis, Smith, Klimchuk and a lethal back-end.

I know they got hit hard with injuries last year and were also pretty young and I don't want to hi-jack this thread -> but shouldn't Stockton be a top-tier AHL team this year?

They'll probably be a playoff team but not much experience for the playoffs so skill and grit will have to get it done

We expected Adirondak to go on a full blown tear last year too. Wheels fell off the train when Ortio went down and Arnold as well. We'll see this year. Won't be much room for some AHL vets with the amount of incoming JR turned pro players.

I'd be pleased with a lower playoff seeding for Stockton next season.

I have a buddy that played with Klimchuk in bantam triple A that said he was the hardest working kid he ever met. He said there was players in the league that were more talented than him, but he out worked all of them. If a coach pointed out a deficiency in his game he would work until he was one of the best on the team at it. I think he'll be a great NHLer

Sounds like a Chris Kunitz to me. Good player that can become great when paired with a star.

Not necessarily. Remember Vancouver's farm team pretty much owned Adirondack this past season. Take a look at each team's rosters, and you start seeing why. Grenier and Shinkaruk were the top legitimate prospects (3rd and 6th on the team respectively), and loads of AHL vets carrying them. Adirondack was a much younger team, with legitimate prospects pushing that team.

Utica Comets:

Adirondack Flames:

Tell me which prospect pool you would rather have. Doesn't always mean it they will be the better AHL squad. Will be interesting to see how Stockton does, however.

Ive compared him to patrick sharp. Quick, skilled, lethal shot, and devoted to his 200 ft game. The injury bug has got him but I could see a very capable nhler who could slide in anywhere in the top 9.

If you are coming to the scrimmage tomorrow, BEWARE. There's construction on both directions of 16th (and at COP), and there's kids camps going on. Parking may be a nightmare. Show up early for your own sanity.

I hate the Oilers as much as anyone but there's no way Culkin and Kulak are better than Klefbom. He may have Oil stink on him but he's a decent NHL player right now with legit top 4 upside. Culkin and Kulak are dime a dozen prospects that every team has in abundance, while Klefbom would probably be our #6 right now if he was a Flame depending on how one views Engelland and the "need" for a meat and potatoes defensive defenseman.
