It would of made the series maybe a game or two longer and closer, but at no guarantee it would of been a win for us.
Getzlaf was amazing this series, he showed he is a great player, and with class.
It'd be close if I had to chose one or the other.
This year you gotta take Gio hands down. He was the best dman in the league, was nearly keeping point pace with Getzlaf and playing way more minutes. I would say we probably would have won with our best player. We played 4 close games without one of the best in the league, and potentially the most valuable to any team. You'd be hard pressed to take any player over Gio this year he was that good.

Engelland counts for 50% of our toughness. Thats not a gab at the rest of the team. Engelland just seems to be a beast since coming to Calgary. We have seen him take on 2 players at once more then a few times even out side on the recent playoff series. The top 4 were so good in the season it was easy to miss how solid Engelland was. It was only after Gio went down and Engelland took his place.
Edit: Forgot to add that the two he was holding back were not little dudes. Stoner and Maroon weigh a combined 443lbs. Stoner is 212lbs and Maroon is 231 lbs.

In the 2 months leading up to Gio's injury, he averaged around 10 minutes or less a game. At the time of Gio's injury, roughly calculated at a -15 after 55 or so games.
Gio gets hurt and then he plays less than 15 minutes only once for the rest of the season, and averages close to 18 minutes...including 25 in the clinching game vs LA.
Those 21 regular season games since Gio goes down, increasing his average ice time well over 50% over the 2 months prior? Overall, -1 (including a -2 in the last useless game vs Winnipeg). Don't forget his two goal outburst which secured at least the critical loser point vs Dallas.
In the playoffs, he averaged 20 minutes per game.
In my opinion, between the Stajan Richardson fight, and the fact that Engelland took on two Canucks and beat them both down, at very least fired up the Flames, and that Game 2 loss in Vancouver was not a loss at all, rather a rallying point to take 3 of the next 4...and still leads the league in playoff penalty minutes currently, with 50.

Lundqvist and the Rangers are due for a cup. The Hawks have already won a ton of cups lately and I can't cheer for the Shmucks. So I guess the Rangers are the team I'm rooting for now. *shrug*
Contrary to most people on here it seems, I hope the Ducks win the Cup. Not that I like them but they are a very good hockey team as it transpires and if we had to lose history should note we lost to the best and not some also-rans. I think whether its Chicago or Anaheim that comes out of the West they will have a leg up on any of the teams left standing in the East.
Just looking at how much better the team played in the last game compared to the first game of the series says a lot about how valuable the playoff experience really is. And looking at how many of the most costly mistakes were done by our young players tells you a lot about how much this team needed all that experience.
These playoffs were money in the bank. There's no guarantees they'll make the playoffs next season as they'll still be young team especially at center and our division and conference are insanely competitive. But the core guys will be at the dance again soon, and there's no doubt they will be better then than they were now.
My only issue with this year's team is that we don't get to see them play more. Sure, there are a few players I think the Flames should send packing and there are a few players I'd love the Flames to chase but overall this year was awesome.
What makes this year even better is that most of us had them pegged as a lottery team. To not only be proven wrong about making the playoffs, but to make the second round, have a Calder nominated (hopefully winner), a coach of the year, another Norris calibre season (albeit cut short) by our captain, a record setting season for blocked shots by another defensemen, a sophomore player step up to be a #1 centre and a rookie come in and be one of our best players in the playoffs....I can honestly say that this year was one of the most enjoyable seasons I can remember.

Fan of the Flames, where being OK has become OK.
If I could have any player in the NHL right now to build a franchise around, it would by Ryan Getzlaf. He was an absolute game-changing stud in this series for Anaheim. Without him, they would have been lost.
Props where props are due, he's an amazing player.
I still have a bit of distaste for Getzlaf because of his attitude the last year in Calgary. I know 18 year old kids can will change but still.
I share Ramos sentiment, the Ducks scored 2 goals in this series directly due to the goaltender being pushed of position, and one of them was the series winner. Not saying they were penalties, but in both cases I think there was enough grounds overturn the goal.
That said, getting a tough call like that in game 5 shouldn't make a series, so I'm not going to eat to many sour grapes.
Great season they predicted bottom 5, we were the 7th team left standing.
There's one reason that I'm absolutely cheering against the ducks and his name is Ryan Kesler. Hope his grimy little hands never come close to the cup. Go Hawks!
