Conspiracy theory - Flames owners saw the potential to gain cash from another playoff game and asked the team to go gently on the Nucks, let them win but not by much.Come home and destroy them (Not really)
Onto the real world, I would rather they had a bad game in game 5 in Vancouver with a 3-1 series lead than a game 7 back in Vancouver. No biggie, we lost one and have room to do so. Come home, get back to Flames hockey and move onto the next round after a win on Saturday.

Reading the first responses to the OP and one guy said it right, just simplify the game. The extra passes and the nonsense and endless cycling in the corner of the Canucks' zone that gets to no scoring chances is only doing one awful thing: just wasting time. The toe drags are dumb, Johnny you have what it takes but let's try not to make it look so smooth and make it look more rough by still getting by the one guy that would give you the scoring opportunity or that backdoor pass that we all want for the open shot. Flames hockey that has gotten us successful to this point is the hard drives to the net and making them count. I just hate this obligation that the Flames get unintentionally into that makes them feel they already accomplished enough getting into their zone and now just trying to make something happen like they were on a powerplay when they're actually playing 5 on 5 hockey.
Guys, let's rock the Dome, I'm flying in tomorrow from Arizona to be there on Saturday. I love all of you.

Yikes, Flames were awful. Canucks totally dominated, this game should have been 5 to 1.
Great game for Hiller.
Flames had lots of players that looked off last night....

Leading 3 games to 1, teams without home ice advantage (playing game 5 on the road) have an all-time record of 43-56 in game 5's in the NHL, but an 87-12 record in the series as a whole.
I feel very good we're going to win this series.

I don't give a damn how desperate the Canucks were. Allowing over 40 shots was an indictment on how unprepared the Flames were. They need to get a hell of a lot better tomorrow or this series is going back to Vancouver.

The Flames are a young team. Now they know what it takes to win an elimination game. They will be better on Saturday.

I think its been mentioned but this is all part of the process of becoming a great team. very few guys on this club have ever been in an elimination game while being the team ahead in a series. Hell, lots of these guys had never played a playoff game. Last nights game was a predictable result (not the analytics nonsense predictable either) in that it was a foreign experience for so many. The best player on the ice (Hiller) has been in these situations before.......no coincidence.
Flames will put this one to bed Saturday I think.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned this yet:
The name, Mr. Hughson, is WOtherspoon, NOT Witherspoon. He's not related to Reese.
Unprofessional.

Maybe others have brought it up, but I haven't seen it. The last change has really dictated this series. The game we won in Vancouver we didn't outplay them imo. Since we are going back home, this should close out the series.

Witherspoon is how local guys say it too. I'm pretty sure that's how it's pronounced.

Then he should spell his name differently.

This. We have to play better and I am not sure if the urgency is there.

You can't go to the pharmacy and buy a pack of experience. This will pay off for years to come.
Yes we were outplayed, but to me the glaring difference was that the Monahan line was thoroughly dominated by the Sedins. It wasn't even close. Every time the Backlund line gained some momentum with a great shift the Sedins grabbed it right back with a big shift against the Monahan line. Willie is probably going to get a ton of praise for his bench management, but its pretty easy when you have last change and your top guys were doing what they were doing.
Johnny continues to rise to the occasion, his double shift on the 4th line to draw that penalty late was great to see. Hudler is either very uncomfortable with some sort of injury or he needs to find another gear. I have no idea about Monahan. I watch what he does and I can't really see a player that is fighting an injury. He doesn't play an energy game, more of a cerebral game. Maybe he is a bit overwhelmed with that matchup.
Either way, Game six at home with a chance to clinch. Doesn't get much better.

Flames getting that early lead proved to be a bit of a downfall in my opinion. They should have went in for the kill but they sat back and let the Nucks tske over the game. I had a feeling at 3-1 they might not raise their game up a notch. The pressure is squarely on the Flames to win Saturday but I think they get it done.

I don't see this. Flames don't need to win Saturday. Canucks do. All the pressure is still on the Canucks. They don't have another chance.
With that being said, Flames win Saturday.

Need to bury them in game 6. The home team has controlled the games and Flames need to keep that going. I expect a Flames team like games 3 & 4 with better intensity and finish for game 6. The cannot go back to Vancouver.

Also, in a microscopic sample size, I like what I have seen from Wotherspoon. He looks better than Potter.
I'm sure Hartley is going to go with whoever gives him the best chance to win (Top 3 with 30 mins each) But I wouldn't be surprised to Wotherspoon's ice time slowly grow.
