I think they're in for the shock of their lives if they play Sven.
Hes a good player and will be a good player but you couldnt ask him to perform under worse conditions than this.

It'll be nice when the nucks get eliminated and Sven is in the hand shake line. I wonder if there will be anything said to him

Just picked up tickets to the game tomorrow.
I've never been to a live magic show before but I'm looking forward to seeing how Sven compliments the disappearing act the Canucks offense showed on the road.

He'd probably be more effective on the Sedin line because their hockey IQ would fill in his missing gaps and allow him the play the game "the way he wants to". IE: Just be a flashy offensive forward with no backchecking or defensive responsibilities.
I can see him as a great cherry-picking, flashy guy given skilled linemates. On the lower lines, he will sputter out because he can't carry anything by himself.

I hope #79 scores the winner off a Bieksa giveaway...
The Baertschi scenario is a close second.

I'm hoping Baertschi scores the game winner.
In his own net.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Baertschi is not ready for playoff hickey. Though saving him for game 5 was a much better idea than throwing him into the Dome.
Him being in the lineup plays beautifully into the Flames' hand. He may manage to find himself on the score-sheet, but even if he does, 99% of his ice-time will be a liability for the Nucks.
Playing him with Vrbata also does us a huge favour. Vrbata has been invisible so far, but he remains a huge threat - with Burrows out, the only other real threat besides the twins. Baertschi with Vrbata ensures that he is a non-factor again.
I am sure Hartley welcomes the lineup change.
Ferland's story of humble beginnings and working his tail off provides a perfect juxtaposition to Baertschi and his self-entitlement. And I would imagine that Ferland is looking forward to expressing his opinions on the subject personally.

I think from a development standpoint, this is probably a good thing for Sven. He gets to experience firsthand what compete is. This is the most glaring deficiency in his game. I am sure he will come out and skate pretty hard for the first bit. Will be interesting how he continues the effort even if he remains untouched.
Unless he drastically increases his compete level, I just don't think he will be anything more than one of those depth wingers that sometimes really makes you happy, and other times makes you wish you can catapult him off the team. For tomorrow's game, I think he will at best just be a sub-plot for the media to talk about and to keep an eye on, and not someone who is going to make a difference out there (at least not positively for the Canucks - might very well be positive for the Flames). I bet when IF he does start doing something out there, Flames start playing him physically and he gets off his game right away, and even takes a selfish retaliatory penalty.

I'm mildly surprised at some of the anger towards Baertschi here; i guess I didn't spend enough time in the traded thread to get a sense of the mood of some.
Sure, he's now on a rival team, but he wasn't good enough to make the Flames and he won't be able to make much of an impact against them, but as far as I'm concerned I don't really wish him any particular ill will.
To quote one of his teammates, I predict irrelevance for Sven tomorrow night.

Hit him every chance you get, with his ego and temper he is bound to take a minor retaliating.

Horvat could open up space for him. But it's not gonna happen with Bonino and Vrbata.

It's the fact that we had high hopes for him here based on what he did in junior but he didn't pan out here as we hoped for so it was/is seen by some as a letdown.

Or maybe how he felt entitled to a roster spot, pouted when it didn't happen, didn't work on his game because it wasn't why he was drafted, said he'd not re-sign, and then snarked about the Flames and how the Canucks "appreciated him" after he was traded.

I know. And some are still ragging on Glencross in another thread. It's bizarre, especially considering the position the Flames are in now.

Yeah I don't feel any ill will toward either player, but will nevertheless try to understand why some do. That said, Glencross contributed to winning games during the season to help the Flames make the playoffs, so ragging on him at this time doesn't make any sense at all. At least wait until the summer for pete's sake...
