They both have tarnished reputations today (undeservedly, in the case of Wagner - he couldn't help it that Hitler was obsessed with his music). Furthermore, most people are smart enough to judge people by the standards of their time. By the standards of 2015, beating up your wives and girlfriends is terrible behaviour. The only reason Meriweather isn't universally regarded as scum is because he's a famous athlete.

What? No.
Wagner's reputation as a raging anti Semite was well deserved, well before Hitler came along.

You cannot insult anyone for absolutely anything, as that is discrimination, sexism, etc.
Dumb, fat, ugly, girl, boy, sexuality, it is all the same.

One of these things is not like the other....
It should be open season as far as fat is concerned.

This number was particularly curious and I was curious why the 18-34 group was taken:

One in five people aged 18-34 believe if a woman sends a man an explicit photo through text or email, she is inviting him to engage in sexual activity offline.

It'd be interesting if there was a trend in the data for the age in relation to this question due to the heavy technology aspect.

I've stayed out of this since I got barked at by both sides in the YLYL thread.
I am glad to see everyone is struggling.

interesting to see that the guy is getting fired from his day job (@ hydro one) over this incident.
Is there any question about the legality of firing someone over incidents outside the workplace? I don't believe the incident is "illegal activity", and if it is not, on what premise can an employer take such an action?

Interesting.....while I have no issue with this D-bag being fired, I also wonder about the legality of the firing.

A lot of employers have personal conduct policies now that can apply to you if you're outside of the office, including social media accounts. Personally, I think it's ridiculous.

I'm kind of torn on it. On the one hand, I'm happy to see more people taking a stand on sexual harassment. On the other hand, it seems a bit harsh.

Depends on the position and job.

It is heavy handed, no doubt, but it is hard to feel sorry for him.

Read that article. The end bit caught my attention...
Quote:
“Just as a girl wearing a short skirt is not an invitation for a sexual assault, a girl sending a text with an explicit photo is not an invitation for sexual activity,”
|
Ummmm.... Wait. What?
So if a girl sends me an uninitiated, uninvited pic of her tits that's all well and good, but if I decide to reply with a glorious pic of my junk, I'm some sort of e-rapist?
#### that. I don't buy it for a second. If she sends me a naked picture or sexts me first, that is full on the A-OK, "Go Ahead" to reply in the same way. Also why aren't we up in arms over the girl sending those in the first place? Automatically assuming every guy wants to see that?
This is getting absolutely out of hand. Sounds like they're trying to sympathize with the "opps, I regret doing that after the fact" crowd.

Oh yeah, the guy seems like a world class ###### canoe, but I don't know if he deserves to have his livelihood taken from him. That said, an argument could be made that he was directly trying to screw with the reporter's livelihood, so turnabout is fair play.
