Friend of mine got the LG G3. Figured the screen would be a tad big, but it really isn't.
Decent phone.
Obviously in terms of price, the OnePlus One seems like the best bet but the new iPhone does look appealing. Very expensive though on the 2 year contract.
Used to be a few great phones, but IMO most companies are running neck in neck now.
Only difference maker is when a phone like the OnePlus One comes out for that price and you get it in 64GB....which isn't some readily available. Or a phone like the Nexus 5 comes out for a great price.
Blind comparisons shows that photos taken by the Note 4, iPhone 6 and LG G3 and Z3 shows the Note 4 has the best looking pictures by a wide margin and is preferred by a wide number of users

A good friend of mine always points out how flawed these types of results are based on the wildly varying types of monitors, resolutions and settings people have on their screens.
He's a professional photographer, has this ridiculous set up at his home and was showing me some pictures he took, one in particular I asked if I could get for my desktop, and once I got it on my very nice dell 27" it looked half as impressive as it was on his screen.
Test only makes sense if everyone uses the same screen to make their judgement.

The only problem with the Note 4 is that Samsung makes it.
I've only used their devices and I've never been really happy with them.
Yup.
Was really thinking the Note 4 for my next phone, but after reading various reviews of the Note 4 (that say there are lags still there - even with 3GB of RAM), I'm going Nexus 6 after my Nexus 5.
Rogers and Telus released the Lumia 830 today. $0 on contract for a 10 MP PureView shooter with OIS, 16 GB onboard with SD expandable storage, LCD IPS screen (with display memory so glance works), wireless charging, and pretty damned decent battery life out of the 2200 mAh battery:
Talk Time: Up to 15 hours
Standby time: Up to 22 days
Music Playback: Up to 78 hours
Bell, MTS, and SaskTel are also releasing it, with Bell launching on October 22nd.
We're certain patent battles are the last thing you'd like to read this morning, but things are getting interesting in the case between Apple and Samsung.
The latter party has managed to garner support from various top tech giants, including Google, HP, and Facebook, who have filed a "friend of the court" briefing at the start of July, protesting against the decision to fine Samsung $548 million.
Surprised that this thread got bumped seeing how Apple is making record profits and Samsung is in the dumps. I still fondly remember Bertuzzied and his grand predictions that Apple was finished.
It was bumped due to the patent issue above, which is interesting news. It might not fit here perfectly but it's news.
The thread was a battleground to dicuss (fight?) about different phones, pros cons etc etc, not about the Business of any one company, so strange that's an issue for you.

Not an issue at all. It's no different than the Video games battleground where people compare sales of Xbox's and Playstations and the title clearly says Samsung vs Apple vs Google, etc. I think it's relevant which company is selling more phones than the other in a thread of this type.
I don't see a patent issue seeing a decision has already been made and Samsung came out on the losing end. No real surprise that other companies would side with Samsung seeing they don't want to be the next company sued.

That might be a strong way of putting it even relative to the success of Apple but it's not like Samsung is an HTC or Sony trying to find some way to sell phones.

That's true but they have started to lose ground in China and India and four straight quarters of declines is hard to draw positive. I feel that Apple will start to settle back down as well as they are reaping the success of introducing the larger screen iphones but that won't last either and I feel that you are not going to see the anticipation for new phones that we have seen in the last decade as the improvements in latest phones have all been very minor and the market in general is becoming stagnant and saturated. Heck this thread dying kind of shows where people are right now with phones as there's just nothing really to compare or argue about.

I think Apple also benefited from a year in which most of the major Android manufacturers didn't make any colossal changes to their flagship phones. The S6 Edge is kind of nifty looking but functionally it's not a huge upgrade on the S5. Neither are LG G4 or the HTC One M9.

That's because there are no colossal changes to be made. Everyone has the big screens now and they all take decent pictures and have plenty of horsepower to run phone tasks. We will continue to see oddities like the Edge because what else can you really do with a smartphone that hasn't been done by everyone now? What's going to change next year?
The truth is apple benefitted from finally releasing larger screen phones and you saw a lot of apple users upgrade. That won't last as once everyone has their large screen iphones there will be nothing left for apple to change and they will be in the same situation as Samsung.
The only real disappointment is for all these massive changes in the landscape over the last decades that battery performance hasn't kept pace. Maybe that's the next big thing is a phone that can actually go multiple days of use without needing to be charged.
