I hope he doesnt resent the Flames for it if it happens. It will show a big time character flaw IMO.

Bennett's attitude is just showing leadership qualities, he doesn't want to take no for an answer. This chip on his shoulder is just the kind of attitude that a lot of elite players have when they know what they want. If Bennett has this attitude about winning and wants to win the Stanley Cup while he is at it; then lets ride the wave!

Hartley is not going anywhere. Burke freakin loves the guy and it's unanimous top to bottom in the organization that he's changing the culture of the locker room and getting the most out of this team.

It should also be said that since his hiring Treliving has not shown a shred of ego. In fact I distinctly remember him saying that he doesn't want to run around and make dumb moves to make his mark on the team.

I'd say we have a better chance of winning the division this year than Hartley has of being fired. It's almost not even worth discussing IMO.
Great comments and insight.

Not sure if this was previously mentioned by I was listening to Pat Steinberg and Peter Loubardias (sp?) this afternoon - they were mentioning that while Bennett and Gaudreau have really shined so far this past week, they were both surprised at Baertschi. He looked like a completely different person; much stronger and bigger and mentally ready to take a spot from someone on the team. Said he is the one to watch - so pumped!

I missed that but a big thanks for mentioning it. I think Baertschi has gotten a rough ride (deservedly or not) but I am sure pulling for the guy I hope he makes an impact this year. Personally I think he will make a big step this year.

Sven is still my favorite prospect. Really hope he makes the team and has a huge year.

Not surprised by this.

Treliving told Bob McKenzie that he thinks Sven is very well-positioned mentally and physically going into camp. Seems poised to take a spot and play the right way.

If Baertschi, Gaudreau, and Granlund all made the team out of camp that would make this season even more exciting to look forward to.

Love hearing this.

I've always been a big Sven fanboy, and would love to see him have a successful season.

At this point a big showing by Sven will almost feel like a bonus prospect showing up. Kind of forgotten for a guy who scored 2 PPG in his draft +1. He's got all the history to show he could be great. Let's hope we see it this year

I was just about to ask if anyone had heard any news on Sven. I hadn't heard anything about him in awhile, which is probably due to the fact he wasn't needed at the prospects camp or tournament.

At this point Baertschi has to benefit from being a bit under the radar. Less expectation equates to less pressure (self-imposed or otherwise). Also, having a roster that is theoretically already full of veterans means he knows he has to completely smoke a LWer or 2 to earn a spot. The gauntlet has been laid out for him. I hope he takes the opportunity to smash his way into the NHL for good.

After last season I haven't thought of Sven as a great prospect but he seems to be showing that he is going to fight for a job. That he was given a new number shows that the team still has high hopes for him even if I didn't.

I agree that if Sven can steal a spot, that would be cherry on top of what looks to be another exciting year. Also forgot to mention that during that same radio segment, both Pat and Pete said (paraphrasing here) that Wolf has not impressed them in that David doesn't add anything to the flames line-up as say Gaudreau would if he made the team - although Pete did preface this by saying it has only been one game and the first day of training camp so not a huge sample size.

Grandlund, Baertschi, Gaudreau, Wolf and Ferlund all possibly battling for a job likely 2 or more of them will start in the AHL is my guess.

I think all these excellent forward prospects have been a good thing for Sven, really feel like over the last year or two that the spotlight and expectations have sort of shifted from him to guys like Gaudreau. Would love to see him make the team out of camp and never look back.

Giordano-Brodie
Wideman-Russell
Smid-Engelland

Who do you think would take the 7th spot? Is it between Diaz, Wotherspoon, Brookbank, and Cundari? What is your opinion on Brookbank? Seem to travel a lot? I guess all other things being equal we want guys with good ethic and leadership. Does he bring that? Tyler is not healed yet. May be he would benefit by starting in the AHL when he gets back? Cundari I don't think can be ahead of SB and Diaz. I see him as having some grit of SB and the size of Diaz. Actually looks like he is shorter but may be stockier than Diaz.

If we have some kids stealing spots, maybe we will have the opportunity to trade some guys away and stock up on picks for this year's super deep draft.
