I clearly said I wasn't interested in trading the #4, but if TO was that high on the players in the top 4 I don't consider it unless Kessel comes the other way. Kadri doesn't do it (for me), and neither do their prospects (that I can see from my limited exposure to them).

My line of thinking was Calgary has cap room. Dion is a boat anchor. #4 has the ability to be another franchise player, and TO can't win with the current group. Would they trade Kessel in that package to dump Phaneuf and pick up a (possible) franchise forward? Possibly. But if he's not in the deal I'm not interested.

Clear enough for everyone?
What does intimate mean?

I don't see toronto dealing eith Kessel or Van R

I thought about the idea of moving down in the draft and I don't like it. And here's why. The idea of trading away our fourth OA pick and whatever player that turns out to be, turns into a Kopitar or Getzlaf type of player would be hard to swallow. It would have to be a stupidly one sided trade in our favor to not keep myself awake every night wondering why we traded away our future.

I assume you mean you are against trading down.

I would only move down if it were for a package involving a young center and a top 10 pick. A completely hypothetical situation such as Kadri & 8th OA for a B prospect and 4th OA would be alright in my mind. We get a more proven commodity that's a couple years along in development, but can still grab a young blue chipper like Ritchie, Vertanen, Fleur, Nylander, etc..

I would rather draft at 4th, but a situation like I described would be something I could stomach if we move down.

I am all for Ritchie if we move down, just not at #4.

Not sure I want the #1. It's gonna cost us, and I don't think the price is worth it if Ekblad is the target (do we need him)?

I really really like Bennett. I would MAYBE roll the dice and give up something to Buffalo (likely less than what it would take to get the #1 from Florida) and pick up #2 to take Bennett. If he isn't there take Ekblad, or try and trade the pick to someone in the 5-8 order who has a major boner for him, and (as they say) illegally fornicate them for it.

I just love this though. My head might explode from all the "what if" scenarios, which makes this draft pretty exciting.

I think we will end up with one of the Sams hoping for Reinhart then maybe getting Griffen in a deal and having all 3 brothers.

From the sounds of it, Treliving's thrown his initial offer to get the 1st but Tallon asked for more, and seems content on letting things play out up until draft day where they have a good idea of what they're willing to give up vs where the price has ended up at.

Given how aggressive other teams are it's more likely that we won't trade up and stay at 4.

Have you looked at our defensive prospect pool? Yes we need him, more so than any other player in this draft.

The only Trade up I could see the Flames making is to #2 if Ekblad is their guy and Florida already picks a Sam.

I think they would only offer something like a third, to move up 2 spots.

Buffalo would be thinking, if they stay.

1 Sam?'
2 Sam?
3 Ekblad
4 Draisaitl

or if they trade
1 Sam?
2 Ekblad
3 Draistaitl
4 Sam? + a 3rd. Same player + an extra pick

I think when the players are this close the teams usually have a better idea of who the other teams, "guy" is than one would think. So Buffalo would know if this would actually play out right

I am starting to just warm up to the idea of just staying at #4 more than anything. No need to trade assets on a team that is trying to rebuild, we need to have as much assets as possible. I am fine with any of the top 4. Call me crazy, but the Oilers will most likely be picking a center this draft, they'd rather have that #2 center than Ekblad imo.

Maybe, but I don't think it's worth what it would likely cost to get the #1

If the cost is right - like 4th OA + Colorado's 2nd I'd do it in a heartbeat. Burke has been known to make a big splash for drafts.

Realistically though it'd take more - our only leverage vs others wanting to move up is that Calgary's pick is still within the top 4 - the most hyped upper echelon, whereas teams like Toronto, Vancouver are on the outside looking in and will have to give up roster players anyway.

Regarding Ekblad falling I think Lowe and MacT have too much of a hockey boner for him for cooler heads to prevail. Screw them.

So on 107 this morning they were talking about how the Flames are one of three teams that have very serious offers in to Tallon. I have no link as it was on the drive in this morning about 7:10ish, but they seemed very convinced that the Flames were making a serious play for Florida's pick.

I wonder if we are going for Reinhart? My assumption is we thought we could get him at #4, but now we are thinking he won't get past 3 teams, let alone Florida or Buffalo.

Well we don't know what that is, it might be as low as Colorado's 2nd or our own. If that is what it takes you do it every time. Saw Ekblad play a lot in the OHL and I am pretty confident he will be a top 2 defenseman.
