I think he is growing, and he is learning how to have the right attitude. It's obvious he is a good guy. I think once he learns how to be a difference maker along with his improved play in all three zones he is going to be a very good player.

Call me overly optimistic , but I think Sven has made huge strides in his game. added some intensity to go along with his all-world skill level.
He just needs to mature physically a little more, highly skilled players in the NHL need a little more muscle as they get leaned on a lot more (and by bigger players) than in junior.
Part of me hopes he stays with the Heat for most of (All) the year and goes into the summer and works his leg/core strength

I remember him being pretty fast last year when he raced up on an icing call. I still get the sense that he is holding back so it could be a confidence issue. "It's a lot to learn" to play at such a high level in the NHL. Once he gets his confidence I think he will start showing more speed.

Sven isn't as slow as he is being made out. He is one of the better skating prospects we have.

A lack of confidence is hindering his ability to pick his spots and really showcase his speed and skill.

Sven knows what Burke's expectations are and what it will take to get back to Calgary: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...618/story.html

Quote:
“He told me that on every team he’s been on, he’s had skilled players. He also said that he wants to have players like that because he just can’t have a whole team of rough players. You need those (talented) players.

“You can tell by the teams that he managed lately — there’s always room for guys like me. I feel that he really wants me to be on the team.”

Everybody remembers Burke, in his pre-season address, roasting Baertschi. (“I see big holes and I see a lack of commitment.”) Now, apparently, supervisor and employee are on the same page.

“We went over a few things,” Baertschi, five foot 11 and 190 pounds, continued. “At this point, he just wants to help me — and help me to be a better player, so he can use me at some point.”

Maybe slight bitterness in the last sentence of that interview, but I'd like to think Sven gets it and is willing to go through the process, because if not, he won't make it in this league.

I really hope he believes that this so-called demotion was for his own good.

The kid we be alright! I do however think gaudreau and Sven will be competing for the same spot on this team when the time comes.

I hope so as well.

Otherwise, he will just be another " could have been" that wasn't.

doesn't seem like an attitude problem to me, seems like he's just another 21 year old skill player that couldn't handle the NHL game yet. Problem for Sven is he's so much purely tooled towards one role that he doesn't know how to adapt when dangling doesn't work, hopefully he figures it out one day.

He's got amazing hand eye but he's not fast enough with his feet or hands to Datsyuk around people so I don't know what he's going to do, it's going to be tough to develop a player like that on a small team with a number of undersized skill players. Maybe he can try to play a playmaker role more than a sniper because at present he has shown he isn't going to be able to get to get that open spot successfully. If he could learn to create some space and draw people out of position to make that pass more often he'd start to find some production because at present the opponents just need to rough him up a bit and his game completely goes out the window. This outcome was fairly predictable for a guy like Sven on a team like ours

He did mean he doesn't want to change anything on the team. He was extremely appreciative of the fact that he was playing on a winning team and seemed wary of disrupting what they've built so far this season.

He seemed 'down' but was optimistic about the rest of his season. He was having fun at practice, joking around with guys, so that's always a good sign when joining a team that he doesn't know all that well.

Tonight is his first game against Utica.
Good demeanour in practice.
Ward wants him to have more touches with the puck, moving his feet more and shooting more to get his confidence up.
Figures he needs more maturity to develop more consistency.

i don't think it can be interpreted that way. Everything in that quote sounds great to me. Sounds like he's clear on what the higher-ups expect of baertchi to take that next step, and that he and the management agree that he's a skill player and that he isn't asked to change that aspect of his game, but more learn how to become more effective in such a role at the pro level.

He'll be back in CGY this season, but i truly feel some time with the heat will be a great decision in the long run.

Similar to Bobby Ryan too. Remember that when Burke threatened to fight Kevin Lowe, it was after Lowe called Ryan a bust.
