So does this mean I can cancel my cable and just get GameCentre because there is no more regionlization or blackouts?!!?!

Guaranteed that with one corporation controlling everything, we will see gouging the likes of which we've never imagined.

Bettman handed an additional mic during conference, quips "Technology not so right? Well, we've got a lot of time to get that right."

You would think so, Gary. You would think so.

National games won't be blacked out on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Regional broadcasts and associated blackouts would still apply.

I could see Rogers start up channels and make me people pay to see many games

There are many channels. For us in Calgary, there is Sportsnet West, Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360 and CityTV. I think we get TVA too, 124(?) on SHAW? which costs much less than having to buy RDS seperately.

And the punjab broadcast on OMNI

I do like TSN and what's good about this deal now is that SN will get to hand-pick the talent it wants to buy in order to improve it's product.

Don Cherry will retire in 4 years anyways so that's a good time to cut off CBC for good.
I've got to disagree, the production values are on another planet, and I think Friedman, Hughson, Ron MacLean are all better than any single guy on SN.

What I don't get is why the CBC would air HNIC for rogers for free with no ad revenue? Why promote the product for rogers on a national network? There's gotta be something in this for them.

Yeah -- we would only see nationally broadcast games if we get all the SN channels. Ontario, East, and Pacific. I think those are available now, in filthy SD. I imagine getting HD access to all of those channels will cost a bit on most providers.

Free programming? Anything else they could show would cost money. Plus avoid people saying no one watches CBC.

I don't think girlysports has a HD tv..... hehe

“Our fans always want to explore deeper and more emotional connections to NHL hockey,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, “and that is precisely what Rogers has promised to deliver over the next 12 years–channeling the reach of its platforms and the intensity of its passion for the game into an unparalleled viewing experience.”
.........where you get hear the goals and the saves before you see them!!!

Two sub licenses: HNIC to CBC, French language to TVA (as previously reported).

HNIC airs on CBC during reg season and playoffs, brand also will be featured on SN and channels like City.
