He may indeed be your next #1 guy in net...and if he inspires the team to battle, as they did last night, then he has to be that guy...Goaltenders that engender that kind of team loyalty can be special...

It remains to be seen if your team can A. Maintain that kind of Defensive effort, in shot blocking, boxing out on rebounds, and keeping shooting lanes clear of screens and B. improve possession, to allow 70 attempts toward the net is NOT a recipe for long term success...Your guys have to possess the puck and move it away.

Defense is much easier 200 feet away from your goaltender.
I was able to only watch the 3rd period and from what I saw the Flames controlled play. The Hawks had barely any zone time and Berra didn't have to do much. The only stretch of time the Hawks had any sustained time in the Flames end was during the 5 on 3.

Yeah I think read or heard somewhere that he's had some trouble getting used to the NA level of traffic in front of the net.

We aren't going to see what we did last night from him every game, but we are probably going to see it more often then not.
Well, .955 SV% is a bit much to ask consistently

Anyway, sounds to me that despite the hiccups, you're optimistic about Berra?

Don't think it sat well that he threw the team under the bus, while not taking accountability himself.
What'd he say?

Just a footnote to the celebration ... No love for Bouma in this thread? Why they'd play Jackman over him is beyond me ...

Lol at Hartley.

And that down low behind the net angle of Kane. Really shows how incredibly quick those shots are coming in.

Of all the goalies currently in Calgary's system, I have the most cautious optimism for Berra. Skill, size, personality and "gifted" wise, I have him top of my list to be a #1 goalie for us. He'll have bad nights, he will bounce back with great ones. He will keep the team in the game and put them on his back because his ego/pride won't let him lose. He wants to play and he wants to win, that seems to be the only thing that goes through his mind. I think we might have something here.
